Absolutely phenomenal job of restoration. I'm very impressed with your tenacity to get this done and done right. Looking forward to seeing the final photos of the completed project. It's a masterpiece that you will enjoy for years to come. Bravo Zulu to you and your wife!

Had a great couple days up on Hood Canal, lot of crab, oysters and clams. The trailer is very comfy, stayed dry at night, its so much better than the old tent.

We stayed at Seal Rock campground and we saw another Airstream just down from us. I walked over to check it out, what a beauty. I told one of the guys we were camping with I was a bit nervous showing ours because the one down the street was so nice.
About then a nice lady walked up asked us what year was our trailer, we told her 72 and I asked if the other Airstream was hers, it was. I asked if she was on the Airstream Forums she said yes they were Aluminitis, not sure on the spelling, she introduced us to her husband and asked if we would like to see their trailer. We showed her what we had done so far. We walked down the street to their trailer, what a nice job they had done, the outside was beautiful, and the inside was just as nice, I loved the layout. It was nice chatting with them and seeing such craftsmanship has inspired me.

You two have done such an amazing job on your Airstream! It looks good in pictures, but in person it is so serene and lovely inside! It was great to meet you and hopefully we will see you on the road again sometime. Congrats on your maiden voyage!

reviewing our pictures today I found this one of Pam tightening the lug nuts on the left side. It cracked me up because I was telling everyone it was her side that came loose. All in fun I'm sure I checked after that.

we haven't posted in a while so here is an update. We have to attend a wedding in Pendleton Or tomorrow, we both had some time off so we decided to take the Airstream. We are sitting here in Boardman Or at the Marina and Rv park. This place is nice! My brother inlaw told me years ago this was a very nice park now I see why.
The only work we have done lately was we put in a hood and fan over the stove. I haven't finished the bath yet. My plan is to finish the rest this next winter and spring.
Here are a few pictures, there is another Newer Airstream just behind us I have not talked to the owner, maybe tomorrow we can chat.

Your Safari is looking good and treating you well I hope. You sure can tell the difference in aluminum alloys between the end caps and sides. And I see you have the International model, at least that is what I think the trim is on the sides. It appears you have lots of ground clearance. Maybe you have 33 degree axles instead of the normal 22 and a half. Enjoy your trip!

We do have new axles, not sure on the degrees, we got them from Andy at Inland RV.
As for the end caps we have started to srtip of the plasicoat and thats as far as we've done. We both were commenting it really shows in pictures how bad the old coating is / was. We plan on finishing removing the old coating. Not sure about International model, I will have to look into that.

I'll bet they are the 33 degree axles judging from the good ground clearance you have and that you got your axles from Inland. Your 72 Safari is looking good! I think the International trim levels included nicer wood cabinets inside. Maybe yours are mahogany veneer? Internatinals also had other niceties.

Update been going a bit slow but going to get started finishing the Safari stay tuned. Bath is going in this winter. We are coming up on two years now and I think we're on track for my original three year estimate. Maybe I could have done it faster but $$$ and time are always in short supply.
I'm sure we will truly never be done. There are so many things learned the first go round. We can improve on so much and will when $$ allow.

I renovated the bath in my 66 Trade Wind last winter. Lots of work for such a small space. You'll enjoy doing it.

I'm not sure that the shower stall was worth the effort. Many campgrounds have showers. The shower stall takes up a lot of space. Water pressure is an issue with a 12v pump or city water connection. You can get pretty clean with a sponge bath and wash your hair in the kitchen sink. It is a small trailer after all.

I boondock a lot at music festivals. One of the luxuries of Airstream camping is taking a nice hot shower every day. Plenty of water pressure with the 12v pump.

Hot showers are one of the many luxuries in life, that's for sure. They are even better if you're really hot and dirty, like bailing hay all day. Or dragging your Airstream through the desert sands in Africa like the Wally Barum caravans. Maybe that's why Airstreams have bathtubs and showers. Wally liked it.

We love those hot showers! We have a portable on demand hot water heater we have used for camp showers and love it. Even when there was no water hook up, I made a battery box with a plug in for a 12 Volt pump. We use a 5 gal bucket for water supply with another 5 gal for back up. I bought one of those tent like shower things, I named it the "Tardess" after the Dr Who BBC show, Pam loves Dr Who.
We loved the portable on demand water heater so much we decided to go with one in the Airstream. We can hardly wait for the bath to be finished!

Today is the two year anniversary since we brought our Safari home. I'm amazed how far we've come.

Pulled out the old wet bath and started cleaning it up, after checking it out its really not that bad. Going to resurface sink and shower with some type of epoxy paint.

I'm going to have to order a new toilet and black tank to get started, I hope Santa got my list. Till then going to figure out the rest of the pex plumbing in the rear.

Have not followed in a while, caught up today. Too bad your across the country, your ear to ear grins are not quite visible at this distance. GLAD you took it camping even though it was not even close to being done, and catching loose wheels is awesome, and part of life, keeping your ear to the ground, so to speak saved you a horrrrrible experience of wheel loss and the damage that would have really put a damper on your project. We have had our trailer 14 years, and have found the vintage camping group tin can tourists and love the get togethers of up to a couple hundred units in one place, with every kind of camper you could imagine, and some that are almost beyond belief with the unlimited budget of some people. We bought our camper almost ready to go camping in, and were out 12 and 13 times each of the last couple years, the wife has put in notice June will be her retirement so hoping to be out lots more. Visit the TCT website and find a rally near you to go to, Sat. is usually an open house so you can see the inside and talk to the owners, and drool over what you see up close and personal. But don't talk tooooo long, you won't see but a very few of the ones that catch your eye. GREAT job and best to ya-- GENE
