Is this '69 supposed to have such a fat bottom?

getting deep in the bath floor replacement but before I pull off the bellypan can anyone tell me if my '69 Safari is SUPPOSED to have such a large booty that hangs two inches below the frame? I'm guessing this might be what enables the black tank to go BELOW the floor instead of 'raised toilet' style?

This is what my 75 looks like, about the same except my tank drain is located there also.

Yes!

Those extensions to the frame are to enclose the black tank. I don't know what is intact on your trailer, but there should be a bent belly pan section that sits between those extension angles. Above that is a galvanized steel box in which some foam insulation surrounds the black tank. The galvanized box is held in place by some small angle that bolt between the frame extension angles.

Those bottoms steel are very important.

There are called "skid plates."

When you go in and out of gas stations as an example, you more than likely will drag the rear end of the trailer.

Those skid plates prevent tearing up the rear of the trailer.

When they wear enough, just replace them, but never discard them.

A few owners have installed "dolly wheels" at the rear.

One word answer.

DON'T.

If you do, the first time you drag the rear end on each side, you will damage the rear quarter panel on that side.

Let the skid plates do their job.
