Did my '69 have rubrail here?
Hey Safarites, below are a few shots of places where it seems rubrail must have lived originally.... Experts (self-appointed and otherwise..) feel free to chime in with what'cha know:
above shot is streetside, seems I need about 8 feet here..
above shot is curbside, the length between the awning supports.. funny I'm not seeing any smaller holes where rivets would have attached the rubrail?...tho they could have been filled with Olympics or whatever.... see why I'm mystified? Another strange thing on this side is that the wheel well dog-leg MEETS the rubrail in the aft/rear, but doesn't have a flange-type meeting point in the fore, it just wraps all the way around the wheel well, suggesting there was never any rubrail here, to me, anyway...
and while not rubrail, technically, you can see I'm missing the dogleg on streetside. I''ve heard this are very hard to find so plan to just use a piece of j-channel.
thanks for yr 2c

Best I remember, on the smaller 69 models, the rub rail did not go all the way around.
You are missing a section of wheel well trim, however.
Also note, that a rivet is missing, suggesting vibration.

Molding.
The lastyear that the non insert type molding was used, was in 1973.
That material, both the molding and castings, is long gone, as far as new is concerned.
The only way you can jazz up the trailer, is to use the 74 insert type moldings and add the blue vinyl inserts.
You can also modify the wheel well, by using the new 2 piece wheel well trim, which started in 1974 and is still in use today.

Thanks, g, had a look at your 22 feet of Airstream history and wow, awesome rig...
I don't mind not having to source & buy the rubrail..one less thing to do..

You can get that trim at any Airstream dealer. It's sold in two pieces, inner and outer, even though both pieces go on the outside.

Every Airstream from 1974 on up, has that wheel well trim.
There are hundreds of photo's on this Forums, in many category's that show those 2 moldings.
There is an "inner" and "outer" molding for each wheel well.
