My wife got me a 1972 AS Land Yacht Safari for my birthday this year, because I have wanted an old AS for about 10 years.
I replaced the tires, packed the bearings, and drove 6 hours back to Tyler Tx without incident.
I plan on restoring / modifying the old girl over the course of the next year or so.
Since my neighbors are going to be looking at this beast for the next year or so, I thought I could start the process by polishing it. I watched a bunch of youtube videos on the subject, and got ready to start.
I have a place to park AS on one side of my house, but all of my tools are in my garage on the other side of the house, and I have a steep driveway entrance from the street that makes the AS bottom out and drag, so I had to build some ramps to get the AS up to my garage, so I can start work.
After the ramps were built, I disconnected all of the old lights (I bought LED replacements) and I took off the "Land Yacht" badges.
I then coated the entire trailer with aircraft stripper, but some of it dried before I could get back to wash it off, so I will have to re-do several spots.
Im going to try to start the polishing this upcoming weekend.
