Zion National Park

Hello Everyone

We are thinking of making a trip to the Zion National Park in southern Utah later this Spring. Wondered if anyone has been there (done that) and if so, would you consider posting your thoughts, maybe some areas of the park you especially liked, hiking trails you took, blah, blah. Also, we are considering the Zion River Resort for our base camp. Anyone who is familiar with this campground???, it would be great to see a review. ( I understand we have a "review area" set up on a thread in this forum . The campground is listed with Good Sam Club and has supposedly been redone lately. Thanks for posting if you have any of the above info. Leigh

Maiden Voyage

Hello Everyone - Well, we have just returned from our wonderful 10 day trip out to Zion National Park with our 2 boys and 1 dog! Everything went great for this maiden voyage of our 78 Argosy Minuet (Mini Driv'r). We had perfect weather, only 1 day cool and windy, every other mid 60's to 70.
I will try to post some pics later - we haven't had time to sort and look ourselves.
Everything major on trailer worked great. We have some minor repairs - hinge on closet is broken, seal on kitchen sink faucet leaks, sink in bath has slight crack in base and leaks into underneath cabinet space (anyone got ideas on sealing?), but overall we had a great vacation.
I posted a review of the campground we used on the Review Campground thread. Very nice place and worth looking at their website (also linked in my review) if you are planning a trip out that way.
Anyway, we are so glad we went (especially after digging out of 4 feet of snow and manuvering thru our neighborhood streets that were invisible). More later, Leigh

I'd like to read that review as we are considering a trip to Zion, but I don't find (or perhaps I don't know how to find) the thread you refer to.

I had looked there, Alan. No review. I believe COArgosy78 is referring to a specific thread

Review Area

Hi Rick - the Review link added above is where I put my review (there are 6 other reviews there also). I just looked and my review has not been added. When I wrote and submitted the review, it indicated that it would be added after the AS forum hosts had had a chance to look it over. Maybe they have not had enough time to do that. Meanwhile, if you want to go to the campground website, here it is:

zionriverresort.com

Like I said in the review, the website has a nice layout, with much info. They have an 800 #, and are good about ????'s and the website has several photos of the area. Hope that helps some. Later, Leigh

Stay at the WatchMan Campground located inside the Park. Has more charm than a commercial RV camp.

Watchman Campground

Hi Nick - Yes, Watchman Campground is great. Right inside Zion NP and cheaper. But it is not full hkup - so if convenience is important, the commercial CG is the way to go, especially one as nice as Zion River. Also for us, trying out our trailer for the first time, it was important to know that all systems were a go (and they were). Also, we went during the supposed off time for the park (the shuttle into park doesn't start until April) and even then Watchman was very busy, so be forewarned that it might be full during high season. I do not believe they take reservations, but not sure. With all that said, I can agree that Watchman has wonderful ambience. (Zion River CG does have the Virgin River running right next to it and you can request a riverside campspot.) Later, Leigh

PS Alan, I just checked the CG review area again and still don't see my review. Does it take quite awhile to post? I did it yesterday 4-1 about mid day. Thanks for checking.

Zion National Park Review...

I just got back from a trip through Zion National Park. Did a fly to Vegas from Lubbock TX, then drive to Zion, Bryce and Death Valley. I saw the Zion RV Resort on the road...looks like a very nice place.
Every National Park I have had the pleasure to visit has been worth the trip. They are not National Parks for no reason. Depending on your physical abilities, there are numerous trails of varying difficulty available at Zion. You could spend a day there as I did, or a couple of weeks if you were really into the backcountry.
The Zion Valley floor is about 4000ft elevation. The top of the cliff faces is about 6700ft...so in some places, you have 2700ft of vertical relief in a narrow canyon atmosphere. I reccommend you see your chiropractor both before and after Zion for neck strain...haha!
I cannot comment on the shuttles. I was there before they were operating for this season. But, I think it must be a good thing. I can't imagine a couple of thousand cars in a Park with only about 500 parking spaces.
If you are going to navigate the Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel, please investigate the height/length/width restrictions and the possible need of a paid escort through the tunnel in your RV.
Above all, you will enjoy the amazing scenery of Zion National Park. I also reccommend Bryce Canyon just 90 miles away...that place is 8800 to 9000 ft elevation and also starts shuttles soon. Both totally worth it!

I've been so excited about the Photogallery being back up and finally learning how to post pics!!! Wanted to note here that I have started posting pics of our Spring 2003 trip to Zion NP - it was great fun and a great way to get to know about our Argosy. It was her maiden voyage and she did so well. Anyway, the pics are coming a little at a time as it is somewhat slow and i want to make sure they are showing up in a certain order. Later, Leigh

Hi Adrian - I will be happy to give you info on our trip to Zion and surrounding area. Right now I am dealing with a dead mouse in a trailer that has the lock broken, so it might be later today or tomorrow before i can get back to you. I just noticed some of my pics in the gallery turned out sort of dark. Will have to fix that. Anything in particular you are interested in? I posted a recommendation for the campground we stayed at (Zion River Resort) in the Campground Recommendation area here. You might want to read that and it has a link to their website. MOre later.
