Yellowstone to Jackson

Next summer - early August - , we'll need to travel from Yellowstone to Jackson,WY. In looking at a map, the most reasonable, direct route seems to be Route 191 which traverses Yellowstone. Or Route 20 to the Southwest, then 33 and 22. Given the time of year, I guess any route may be slow. Suggestions please?

I frequently travel both routes you mention. Both drives are beautiful. If you are towing your Airstream, you need to know that you cant tow it over teton pass from Victor,Id to Jackson. You will have to get on 31 at Victor, then take 26 through swan valley, pallisades lake, along the snake and go north on191at hoback jct. This end around adds 80 miles. Probably quicker to take 191 through yellowstone. If you leave at first light, you will avoid traffic in the park. Park speed limits are 45 & 35. Traffic will slow you down in the park. Widlife jams etc.

folks say one can't traverse the teton pass(with trailer in tow)..route 22 from jackson wy to victor id....but i did ...pullin a 25ft stream....more than once,,,,a thrill

I believe pulling your trailer over teton pass is prohibited by law. 10% grades up and down. But as they say in the movies, "it just...might...work" haha

I would not recommend passing up driving through Grand Teton National Park, stay on 191 and just take your time.

the roads in and around yellowstone are certainly nothing but sheer beauty...the trip thru yellowstone and into jackson is a routine drive.
the drive from jackson and then route 22 over the teton pass,,,,is not closed to(trailers of any length) or limited in any way .. it is sustained grades of 10% for miles and miles,,,but it is not anywhere impossible or prohibited...

the same goes for the hogback...utah route 12 from torrey... towards Brice Canyon....it has 14% grades up and down and sheer cliffs on both sides.....

and nothing but a great drive.....

I second that. My most favorite National Park -- absolutely stunning.

We did the Teton pass this year in a rented 43 diesel pusher... Took three of us, one drove, one called out when the speed got over our predetermined speed, and the last simply whispered soothing words like "it's ok we are doing fine" and "deep breadth stay focused" ... :-) not that bad but it did get our attention.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Most likely we'll take Route 191 through Yellowstone. We won't be in a hurry.

I took my 25' Safari over the Idaho/Jackson pass. No problems, but I was tense all the way down. And I've NEVER been tense towing. Probably wouldn't do it again.
