LawChick... We saw you pulling out of your campground this morning. You were behind an Avion. We had just spent a few nights at Rock Canyon. We went past the interstate into Livingston and hit up the car wash before getting on the road.

We were going to stay at Missouri Headwaters SP but took a look and passed, ended up at Lewis and Clark Caverns SP. Hot and no shade.. may not have been the best move, but sounds better than 287 north.. eeks..

Tomorrow we will head to Georgetown Lake. Looks like it might be a bit cooler.. at least some water for the dog.

The caverns are awesome, if u have time it's worth the time. It's also nice and cold in there. If u have an LED flashlight the true colors of the caves come alive.

We're headed back to the hinterlands tomorrow to dry camp at Glacier for at least four nights. If it's like Yellowstone, we won't be using computers or cell phones while camped there. We'll be at St. Mary's if anyone gets up that way, come say hi!

Oh, and we bought a Honda 2000 today. Dry camping without one got to be a bit of a drag (on the batteries!). I like lights at night since I'm a night owl and do most of my reading and writing late.

P.S. Montana has no sales tax! I knew I liked this state!

We loved, loved, loved the Glacier NP campgrounds, and the wildlife that roamed through them.

If you are able to get to Waterton, the townsite itself is worth the drive---nestled in amongst the mountains on the lake. Just spectacular.

One of the many advantages of our little unit is that our daily driving of the park kept our batteries charged. . The friends we were with had bought a set of portable solar panels which worked very well for them.

There is a very cut-off feeling to being without cell AND Internet service for days at a time, something at one point in my life I never thought I would say. . Something to plan for, so that loved ones know where you are. However, it is worth it to spend time in such a beautiful, glorious place!

Enjoy!

There are some areas on the East side around St. Mary's and Many where you can get cell service, but "wifi" is a little more iffy. (Be careful if near the border that your cell phone doesn't tag onto a Canadian cell site - you can get big dollars charged just for data roaming) And Maggie's suggestion, above, for Waterton is excellent - but you need a passport. Waterton and Glacier together are Waterton - Glacier International Peace Park - the world's first, and a world heritage site. And, if you do go, try for "afternoon tea" at the Prince of Wales Hotel lobby. There is not a better view anywhere, and you'll think you're in jolly ol' England!

(and yes, no sales tax... but Shhh! We try not to let on!)

Ummm, yes, forgot to mention the passport.

Also, if you have pet you need proof of vaccinations.

Also, entrance fees to Waterton are a bit steep, IMO, as is camping. But, what the hell, right?! It's Waterton!

2, 44,89

Hey Lawchick, met you at the Piney woods rally last year.

From Great falls to St Mary I think 89 is the most scenic. Going North we took 15 to 2 across to 89 and into St Mary. 44 to 89 may be a bit shorter. Coming South we took 89 to Great Falls. Just a little construction, not too bad.

We got Verizon service in the St Mary Campground.

Take the Crown of the Continent tour in the red bus at Glacier and Hike the St Mary and Virginia falls trail. Also take a drive over to Many Glacier, visit the lodge and walk around Sprague Lake.

On the way back stop in Great falls for the Lewis and Clark Interpretive center.

Law Chick, In some areas of Montana there is a sales tax. They link the tax to tourist activities and areas that are heavily visited get taxed. We ran into it in several places.

Adios,
Dan

We (LawChick and I) are camping at St. Mary Campground in East Glacier and have spotted two other AS's. A 22 or 23 International from Virginia and a Safari LS (slide out) from Illinois. Both sets of occupants are currently gone from the units so we couldn't stop and talk to them. Maybe they'll say something on here?

Just saw a dual-axle Safari with Florida tags pull thru St. Mary Campground loop C. Apparently they aren't staying in this loop because I went looking for them and couldn't find them.
