Bob,
To paddle over the geyser vents just off the coast from West Thumb Geyser Basin. Put-In is at Grants Village Marina, paddle north along the coast untill you see small bubbles, larger bubbles and finnaly over the vents just off the edge of the water.Nice Paddle. Also the Lewis Lake to Shoshone Lake is a nice wildlife viewing paddle.
If you get down to Tetons...to many nice places to put-in, though the Oxbows of the Snake River are a must for great Moose Viewing.
Paddle Safe-
Hey Janet, I think we remember you passing us up one day on the road...BIG smile right??? Life is Good...

Are there any places to just boondock?
Just a little north/northeast of Jackson is a very peaceful campground called Gros Ventre ( pronounced grow vaunt ).

I spent 6 days there in 2001 and found it far enough from the crowds, yet close enough to everything else.

Happy Camping

Yeah! This is the name of the campground I was trying to remember early in this thread. For those of you not schooled in the pronounciation of the names of french Indian tribes it is prounounced "grow von". One of those funny names that doesn't sound much like the spelling, like Worchester, Ma is pronounced Wuster.

This campground is on the low end of campsite maintainance but is open with lots of room between neighbors. When we were there moose were hanging out by the river, which is in walking distance, and casually strolling through the campground. Plenty of buffalo in the area too. There is one campground loop which is a generator free zone.

Camping in Jackson

The most beautiful campground in Jackson is Gros Ventre (sp) pronounced
Grow Vaunt. We always see Moose right in camp, but we go in Spring and
fall. It is right on the river and lots of trees. It is located north out of Jackson just beyond the game preserve.... a great location and just a few minutes
from town. It is my very favorite campground anywhere. Happy Trails, you
will love, love Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. Warm Regards, Betty & John

Instead of heading west then back east on the same boring road, is it realistic to go thru Canada one way and the US the other?
