Super nice folks with a BBQ stand in the park.

We spent several hours in the cellar meeting fellow campers while a Tornado blew past...the owers came thru the campground knockin on doors hollering for everyone to get in the cellar...

I think this year we will shoot for Vedauwoo, a bit further west.

That must have been interesting. Will look at other options for pitstopping along the way.

We twice stayed at Flagg Ranch, located between Tetons and Yellowstone. The site has a large restaurant for those days you return to camp tired from a full day of tripping, gift shop, and adequate camp store as well as fuel. We had wooded sites and while it IS a large campground, we did not feel crowded by neighbors too close. Quiet by a decent hour for a night's sleep. Best of all, it's central to both parks if you want to make one camp and day trip out. It worked for us. ~G

We're making the long haul to the Tetons and Yellowstone in August and have been looking at WalMart and CrackerBarrel Country Store locations along our routes up and back along with state and national forest sites. It's amazing how many inexpensive options there are for overnighting enroute. It would seem some of these could be workable and allow travel schedules to remain flexible. WalMart actually shows which stores allow and don't allow overnight parking on their website. CrackerBarrel stores we've visited while traveling without the Airstream have all welcomed overnight stays according to the managers we've spoken with. Good luck with your particular plans.

Any specific locations on the route through Wyoming? we will be heading past Denver through Cheyenne. It will be just a pit stop and breakfast as we want to get to the Grand Tetons early in the day.

We went all the way to Rock Springs, then up thru Pinedale and into Jackson. It may not be the quickest but the unfolding of the scenery is stunning!

That's the route we always take but for us it is the quickest way. We go from I-70 and cut across to Steamboat and Craig to I-80 then on to Rock Springs.

Rawlings Campground Options

We are looking for a CG between Laramie and Rawlings Wy for an overnight on the way to the Grand Tetons. Hope to make it a shorter drive in the morning 4-5 hrs to Tetons.

Don't overlook a stunning small mountain range with FS camping at high altitudes and stunnng scenery: the Snowy Mountain range just south of Laramie. I suspect many travelers sail right past as they head on west toward Rock Springs, but if possible, plan a byway drive, overnight at one of the high campgrounds by an Alpine lake, and then head back on west the next day. Worth the time And we too like to head west to Rock Springs, on up to Pinedale, and on again to the Tetons, marvelous scenery and history as you drive by Green River Rendezvous country, wagon train regions, and the beautiful Wind River range. What a trip, and you still have the Tetons and Yellowstone just ahead to enjoy! ~G

Thanks, any more specifics on exact locations? We'll be doing a long drive from Texas so hopefully we won't have to hunt for it in the dark.

We made a trip some years ago after visiting a friend in Craig, Co. Took a shortcut north and into Rock Springs. From there through Lander to Thermopolis to camp for the night. A real nice day and a spectacular drive through the Wind River Canyon. May not be on your direct route but file it with all the advise you get. Thermopolis has some nice hot spring baths and then it's an easy drive to Cody. Cody is more direct for Yellowstone but not a bad entry for Tetons too. The only problem with traveling through this area is one route is just as spectacular as the other. I don't think you can go wrong. You want to get to Tetons on a short day so just take a radius that fits your need, select a route. You won't be disappointed. Have a great trip. We'll be up there in Mid July. I haven't selected a route yet. Just may wing it and be suprised.

Enjoy,

Grant Tetons to Yellowstone

Thanks for the feedback on the route. Will post our journeys and what we find so that other Streamers can benefit. BTW this is my 501 post and I'm now officially a "rivet Master"!

Congratulations. I think that means you can't ask any more questions.

From now on you can only answer them.

regards, Ken
