Yellowstone??
Heading to Cody then on to Yellowstone, Campgrounds in the park are
going to be closed so: any suggestions of nice RV parks around Yellowstone? This will be our first time out for more than 2 days so should
be interesting and fun!

Yellowstone's Edge RV Park at the northern entrance, on the road to Livingston, is a relatively new campground on the Yellowstone River. Full hookups and exceptional facilities made it our favorite campground on our trip to Yellowstone last year. The owners are really nice people.
They may be open only until 10/10, and you didn't say when you will be there, but this could work if you are going soon.

The NPS campground at Mammoth is open all year. Madison is open until the third week of October. Lewis until November.
Mind you, all are dry camping but they are open.

Yellowstone grizzly in West Yellowstone is a nice full service park. Not cheap but nice.

When we visited Yellowstone a couple of years ago, we camped at the Madison Arm Resort & Campground in West Yellowstone, MT. Their Website says they are open until October 1st:
Madison Arm Resort - Cabins, Campground and Marina near West Yellowstone, MT
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...e_Montana.html
GPS coordinates: 44° 44.142'N 111° 11.180'W
Note: One caution -- Do NOT exceed 25-30 mph on the dirt road between the highway and the campground. That washboard road is notorious for dumping everything inside your RV out of the cabinets and closets onto the floor. The ripples seemed worse at slower speeds, so I sped up to about 40-45 and the road smoothed out. However, when we arrived, all of our cabinet and closet doors, and even the oven door came off their hinges and fell onto the floor. Plus, the refrigerator door popped open.
When we pulled into our camp spot and looked inside, it looked like a giant had turned our Bambi upside down and shaken it until everything was dumped together in a big heap on the floor. So, just take it slow; it's worth the drive!
(If interested, use SEARCH to locate a previous post where I describe this in more detail.)

I agree with others on Yellowstone's Edge RV Park near the northern entrance. It's a nice, clean park on the Yellowstone River. I hope you are not in Yellowstone National Park during this government shutdown!

Rocky Mountain RV Park in Gardiner, MT is located at the north entrance to Yellowstone. The grounds are "so-so" but the staff is freindly and the baths are clean. We did see elk around the campground during our stay. What makes the campground a good place to stay is the nearness to Mamouth Hot Springs.

2 years ago while heading to Oregon we stayed at the KOA just south of Livingston. It served our purpose well but it's quite a haul down even to Mammoth -- about 50 miles.
Great responses from other members about good, close-by campgrounds!

So we started out trip planning on Yellowstone went to the Buffalo Round-Up in
Custer State Park and my Nikon D3 Camera Quit!! (Dead) With no good backup
we opted to head back to CO! What a blessing that turned out to be as the first winter
storm hit WY and Western SD, we would have been in a world of Hurt! Thanks
to all who gave us ideas we will sure use some of them when we make the trip.
Safe Travels

You cut your trip short because your camera quit? Why? When we travel it is for us, not for others. Glad you enjoyed the trip, and you were really lucky. Jim

I sure saw a lot of Airstreams at Yellowstone's Edge RV Park this summer. If you're contemplating a stay there, however, I suggest making a reservation as soon as practical because it was completely full a number of days this past summer. I guess that's to be expected when you're one of the best RV Parks in that part of the country. (They have been criticized though for keeping their bathhouse and other facilities too clean!)

Question was why would you quit because your camera quit??
Because I am a photographer and that was a big part of this trip!
I now own a new back-up camera which I should have had but just
hadn't bit the bullet!
Thanks again for all the replies!
