Wisconsin in October - Rallies, Great Campsites?

Hello Everyone!
We’re just wondering if there is anything going on in Wisconsin in October. We want to try to squeeze in one quick weekend trip the weekend of the 11th or 18th. Let me know if there is anything going on and where. Or if anyone knows of a great spot within 3 hours of Madison, WI where we could possibly canoe as well that would be great. Thanks!

We go to Door County in October, usually over the colombus day weekend. In fact we have reservations at Path O Pines campground in Fish Creek for that weekend already. Its the Harvest Festival. Fish Boils, Bar B Cues and all that.

Howdy. We camp all over the western 2/3d's of Wisconsin and have a great appreciation for the southwest quarter of the state. Just returned from Gov. Dodge S.P. and Dane County's Lake Farm 10 days ago as a matter of fact. Note that state parks shut off water to campground loops and dump stations on October 1st.

Wiconsin in October... well, I haven't been looking for rallies but I did come across a website for a tour of painters, sculptors, woodworkers and ceramicist studios. It runs Oct. 17,18 and 19th.

We're toying with the idea of taking the Airstream up that weekend and visiting these dozens of artisan's workspaces - how fun would that be?!

Check it out here:

Thanks for the info! I just called to reserve a spot! I went to their website and thought they were Hillarious (sold!). We probably won't get up there until 5:00 or 6:00pm though. Thanks again for the info!

Brad - yes the Art tour is pretty cool. We live near that neck of the woods, Spring Green is great! Make sure you eat at the General Store & check out House on the Rock if you get a chance . Also, there is a little winery in Highland, WI (we recommend "Ruby Lady" if you like sweet wine). It's located between near Dodgeville & Spring Green - off the beaten path. In fact there is a dirt road that will take you right from the winery to Spring Green (make sure you ask at the winery). Goes through the woods and along a stream. Not recommended for your camper of course, just your vehicle. Have fun!!

It's about an eight hour drive for us and we usually get there in the evening. Just up the road north of there is a great craft fair. Lots of artists. You need to reserve for the fish boil in town.

Ahh yess! Mineral Point is great for that. Gov. Dodge S.P. is big if you don't mind getting your own water. There may be one tap at the check-in station. They blow out water lines to the loops of WI state parks on the 1st. Dumping may be allowed in Oct if you don't need water at the dump station; check with the park. There are a couple small lakes for canoing -- well sheltered by surrounding hills.

Hi, Newlyweds,

It doesn't meet your "11th or 18th" parameter but there will be a WBCCI Wisconsin Unit rally at Ladysmith the weekend of Oct 3 - 6. See here for details: WBCCI Wisconsin - Region 7, Unit 116 » Event Schedule That's on the Flambeau Flowage so by all means bring your canoe.

And, it doesn't quite meet your "3 hours of Madison" parameter, but there is going to be a WI Unit campout at McClain State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (near Houghton) the weekend of Oct 10 -12. For information see: WBCCI Wisconsin - Region 7, Unit 116 » Member Exchange

Happy camping,
Nuvi

Thanks Nuvi!

It’s been super chaotic for us work wise, and we can’t take that Friday off (only half day if we’re lucky). That is why we have to keep it close. Thanks for the info!

Hello Bredlo,

We'd be tagging along with you if we weren't already heading to an Airforums rally at Branson that weekend. We did a similar trip last year (the Earth, Wood and Fire Artists Tour) and thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend, artists' studios, and cheese factories. Our Airstream wasn't road worthy yet so we stayed at a B&B by Lake Ripley. Beautiful state, Wisconsin.

Brad,

Since you'll be in the neighborhood, make sure to stop by this artisan's workplace
