Wireless Back up Camera-Jackson Center

On June 1st I have an appointment at JC to repair a small issue with hood fan & install a Voyager Wireless Back up Camera. It's $985 out the door. I feel it's a little pricy but spending a extra $100 + to have the job done correct is worth it. My question. Is that $980 outrageously expensive, I've checked locally & got a couple prices but their is that concern about a good install.
After JC we're heading west to many places and believe that camera will be worth the price backing into tight spaces.

The Voyager came is worth every penny and not just for parking. When passing it allows you to see when you have cleared vehicles in your blind spot.

Are you getting the 5" or 7" screen. Online the 7" system is about $729. Airstream will charge MSRP which seems to be $869. Airstream is adding what looks like 1 hours labor.

Depends. For someone like me - who struggles putting IKEA stuff together - having them install it - even at a premium - was a great investment.

If you're a DIYer, knock yourself out with a discounted version and your own labor. Otherwise - bite the bullet. We love ours!!

7" Kelvin. That's what I seen online also but figured closer to 2 hours labor, making it more palatable. Thanks for the input.

How much would they charge to install it if you showed up with one in a box?

Having been in business myself I realize the product is marked up & with exception of tires (common practice) that's above my comfort zone.

Really? That's interesting. I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. I did that with my hitch when I picked it up at the dealer and saved myself a couple hundred dollars.

Mrjkq, is your 2016 pre-wire for the rear view camera? I have heard that the 2016 come that way.

Well in all honesty I did the same, no put down intended. My hitch install was pre buy & understood.

I think I read that that started with the 2016.5 units. My 2016 was pre-wired for solar, but not a backup camera - darn it.

We took 12Vdc power for the Voyager wireless rear camera off the street side reading light under the roof locker in the Classic and off of one the USP power points on the right side of the rear roof locker in the 23D. I installed a lighted switch to show power was on to each camera. They are only on when we want them on.

I'm looking at a wireless camera so the only hard wire is connecting the camera to power.

Hopefully mine will be similar as it will only power when I activate Parking or head lights. So in my truck I just move the headlight switch from auto to one of above to power the camera.

Exactly, which is why I have been investigating the wireless camera options. But if my AS was pre-wired for a backup camera, I think I would rather go that route. I'm sure you'll be happy with the Voyager - it gets good reviews, and it will be nice to have on your trip out west. We won't be able to take a trip like that until summer 2017, but I hope to have a backup camera by that time.

I installed wireless front (looking downwards for parking) and rear cameras on our Silverado and a rear camera on the '83 27' Airstream. I bought from Tadi Brothers on line for about $600. I added two switches to change from truck rear to trailer rear. I got the clip-on mirror/monitor. All is keyed except the trailer, which has it's own off/on switch. The other switch turns the truck rear camera off or on when towing or not. Seeing behind the trailer is nice both parking and going down the road.
Installation for all took me less than three hours.

The camera on the rear of the truck is handy when hooking up, but the real reason I wanted it is rear visibility. With the Snug Top, there are three pieces of darkened glass when looking in the rear view mirror. Was not good for us.

I'll report back on this in September, regarding the pre hard wire by AS, my unit was built in June so I doubt it has that but I will inquire at JC.
This is our 3rd coast to coast trip & looking forward to doing it in the AS.
