We just made reservations for October 18-20 at Upper Pines. As of a few days ago there were still a number of sites available. Seems like a good time of year as the temps are moderate and nicely cool at night, traffic is a lot less, broadleaf trees are changing. Both of us have driven through Yosemite, but never stayed there, so this will be a treat.
Glad to see the the reservations mentioned above can be used. I think you'll need the reservation form showing payment from the reservation vendor to be able to camp there. If the original reservation was made with a Golden Age pass or other discount pass, you have to have one yourself to get the discount. They are tightening up on this stuff and you'd better check that this is ok. On the Yosemite website and the e-mailed reservation form it says no food in vehicles, but it does not mean hard sided trailers—poor wording, they mean cars and trucks. I checked with a ranger on that. If we had had to put all the food we carry in our trailer in one of the food boxes at the site, we wouldn't have gone. Nonetheless, I wouldn't leave a window open at night in the trailer.
