Who is at Oshkosh?
I'm camped in Camp Scholler, the EAA campground at Airventure. There are quite a few Airstreams here, but they are widely scattered. Curious to know if there are any other Forums members here.

Your lucky to be there for a rememorable show.
Saturday morning the last flying Martin Mars flew over my house at 7:33 AM heading east for the first showing of the Mars in Central America. Took about 8 hrs to fly there I think.
You will see it fly over, but you should hear it once it is off the water. Those four big radials can be heard for miles.

Take lots of pictures, and post some here!

We're in Watertown, not too far away. The plan was for a couple of us to go up either yesterday or next Saturday, but both of us who planned to go had events that caused us to cancel. We had a new grandson last week, so Jo Ann is down in St. Charles, MO for a week to help out. The other couple has had their house for sale for quite a long time, and it finally sold. The wife will be heading down to TX to take care of some last-minute stuff. Too bad that we're this close and won't get there.
Maybe next year.

The Martin Mars flew in the afternoon airshow today. Big and a beautiful piece of history.
I saw a Mars in Navy service take off from Honolulu for the mainland when I was a child. Good memories when I saw it today.

Not there but wish I was. Last weekend we were in Elkhart Lake, WI, at the vintage sports car races. That's a great Wisconsin attraction too.
Oshkosh is supposedly quite crowded. I might have trouble with that. Are you finding the crowds too much to take?
Here is a photo of the first Lancair two place EAA plane I ever saw. I was amazed at how small and sleek it was. Reminded me of the Lotus Elan, one of my favorite sports cars.

Looks like it's doing 120 knots just sitting there. Beautiful.

Oshkosh is crowded, but it's a polite and friendly crowd, for the most part. I don't have trouble with crowds, but my late DH did, so I understand your concern.

I had a personal one on one tour of the Mars a few years ago at its home base on Victoria Island. Very impressive.

Could someone please take a photo of the Mars? Would like to publish in the vintage aviation rag I edit.
Thanks.

The Mars is over at the seaplane base, near but not on the field. I'll try to get a picture for you, but someone else probably will have a better chance to do so. I'm traveling with my dog, and I have to get back to my trailer every couple of hours to make sure she's not too hot or too desperate for a walk.
If the weather turns cooler, my "range" will improve. Meanwhile, she's dependent on me to start the generators and run the AC when ventilation will no longer do the job.
I'll get what I can if the Mars flies in the airshow again as it did on Monday, but none of my cameras has enough zoom to get a really good airborne shot.
Hope someone else is here with better equipment.

mimi, pls. don't put your dog in jeopardy. But, if you happen to get a shot, would love to see it.
We have already published some pix of the Mars in prior issues. Am going to mention its attendance at Oshkosh, with or w/o photo.
Thanks.

The Mars flew again today, but I was in a lecture pavilion listening to a speaker, and I realized too late what it was. By the time I got outside, he was on his last pass.
The weather is supposed to cool off a little. If it does, maybe I can get over to the seaplane base for a closer look.

I hope you and your dog aren't suffering in the heat too much.
Perhaps the Mars should scoop some water and douse the entire crowd!
Better yet, maybe a beer company could donate a few thousand gallons.

Now there's a thought...
The heat hasn't been too bad, but then I think of such things by Texas standards. The humidity here has been a challenge a few days, but has improved the last couple of days. I think cooler weather is forecast for the rest of the show.
I just have to be careful of the temps inside my trailer for the dog. All the shady campsites were taken by the time we got here.

Hey FaN, I've got you some shots of the Mars sitting at anchor in Lake Winnebago. I went to the seaplane base today.
Please pm me a phone number for a text or an email. Not sure I know how to get them from my ancient iPhone to a post here.
