I knew it was in the keys, saw the brackish water, palm tree, mangroves. Thought it was pennekamp, after nick said it was unique...and park with the name. did a search and found a picture that had that building on the left in it. I have passed by there many times wanting to stop on our way to visit relatives in Big Pine. Good contest.!!

Roll of drums............and the winner is .....gryphon. Yes, at the mainland end of the Florida Keys. A great state campground for young children, as there are beaches and an aquarium, and the trip boats mentioned are for going out to visit the coral reef, as they have glass bottoms. It's also close to Florida Bay Outfitters, which must be one of the best Kayak stores on earth, with the friendliest staff you could imagine. Well done gryphon, and here's all the karma I can muster now winging its way to you!
Nick.

It seems like a great campground. No pets!!! I don't think I will be going any time soon.

I don't believe a combination of a lion and an eagle would be considered a pet. I think you should speak to the Park Rangers in advance and discuss your predicament. I've always found them very reasonable.
Nick.

Should have recognized it! Page and I were just there in Feb - and took the glass-bottomed boat tour. This is a great idea for a thread, Nick. Thanks - Pat.
