Where, when, and how long?

Where are you going?

When are you leaving?

How long will you be gone?

Just curious.

I'm an idealist. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

We live in southeastern British Columbia. We decided on either two short trips per month or one longish one during the main camping season.
This month we've already camped at the north end of Slocan Lake in BC at a primitive forest service CG called Wragge Beach (north of New Denver, BC) for 3 nights.

This coming week we will spend 2 nights at Kikomun Creek Provincial Park on Lake Koocanusa, just north of Montana.

Leaving in mid-July, we will spend 3 nights in Jasper NP and 3 nights in Banff NP.

In early August we will spend 3 nights at the CG near Apgar/West Glacier in Glacier NP in Montana.

That's as far as we've planned things, so far.

We do it by seasons.

Early Spring/Summer at the beach, Fall in the mountains/beach. Nov - March we refit the coach with upgrades like this year we will install 16-20 LED lights on dimmers and fantastic vents and prep for the Rally in Sarasota in Feb, so we'll cut the storage time short.

Sometimes we'll store it at the location drive down put it on site for a few weekends as we're only talking 90 miles or leave it on a site for the month and visit every weekend.

Plans change based on Hurricane season along the NC Coast which of course leaves us the Mountains in the West. Tough options.

I would love to find a site nearby to store for a month. Most of our destinations are state parks within a couple hours drive.

Apostle Islands, Wisconsin. On my 60th birthday, August 31st. 10 days or so.
That will probably be our long trip for this year, although we also have a few weekends to nearby state parks to look forward to.
Vietnam, to visit my daughter, later this year but without the A/S!

I like the "10 days or so"...something for me to look forward to someday. We do lots of 2 and 3 nighters within a hour of our home. I am itching for a longer trip.

Next trip is 8 days to Isaac Creek Park, a Corps of Engineers campground on the eastern shore of Lake Claiborne in Alabama. Many of the campsites at Isaac Creek have private boat docks, including the one I have reserved, which is on the creek side of the campground. Taking my inflatable kayak with me, and— alligators permitting— I intend to spend most of my days paddling on either the lake or the creek.

The last full camping day of that trip will be my 55th birthday, which also marks the first day I'm eligible to retire from the Corps of Engineers. Not that I'm retiring just yet, but just knowing that I can will be a major paradigm shift.

Trips Out

Getting our 2013 Bambi 16 ready for a trip to the Redwoods in Nor Cal and Gold Beach in July.

Later, a long week end to Sequoia in October and finally Lone Pine in the Eastern Sierra for our annual Christmas holiday trip.

Next year if everything falls into place off to British Columbia for three weeks.

Too much work time and not enough play time!

Fair warning for all those wish to avoid the inevitable disaster...

Feeble minivan towing humongous Airstream will be leaving Ontario in the first week of August. Overnight for a couple of nights at Glimmerglass SP in Upstate NY then onto Plymouth, Mass for a week. Then it's north to Quebec City (ooh la la!) for four nights then south west to Gananoque ON, in the 1000 Island region. The feeble minivan will most likely be staying north of the border whilst there so you NY folks can sleep soundly in your beds. Then it's home to SW Ontario - all in all about 18 days.

Hide now while you can!
