We will be going to Lenexa Ks this week to visit family. Where is a great campground?

hi missy

lenexa is a 40,000 person one time suburb that is part of the >1 million urban metroplex.

i am not aware of any camp grounds in lenexa.

there are nice almost urban, ks st parks near by (hillsdale lake, clinton lake) so check the ks st parks website

these 2 state parks have nice campgrounds but are 25-40 minutes from lenexa...

shawnee mission park borders lenexa , it's a LARGE suburban city park but has NO CAMPING facilities

there is a nice koa NEAR lawrence ks and about 20 miles sw from lenexa, using k-10 it is a VERY QUICK drive...

there is ONLY ONE rv park in the urban area on that side of the metro area (that i'm aware of) it is this one...

the nut grove...

it's a mix of full timers in 5th wheels, and seasonal folks and occasional over-nighters....

it's gravel, full hook ups, has TIGHT spaces and has nothing special...

it is RIGHT in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and surrounded by a fence and houses...

it IS very close to kc (on the jc side) and only 2-5 miles from lenexa, depending on WHERE in lenexa...

williams seasoning (the chili stuff) has their h/q and manufacturing plant in lenexa...

so there is a BIG chili cook off thing, held there each year and a good bbq event as well...

cheers

on edit, i c this thread is in the 'boondocking' section....

really it would be better moved to 'on the road' or the 'campgrounds' forums....

there isn't any boondocking in the metro area, unless using someones back yard or driveway.

If you don't mind paying a premium for convenience, cleanliness, and facilities, we were really happy with the Worlds of Fun Village campground at the amusement park on the MO side when we stayed there a couple of weekends ago. Concrete sites with nice picnic tables and BBQs, nice landscaping, immaculate park and bathrooms, very nice people, right off I-435 ...but with a Good Sam discount, it was still about $36/night for a 100-ft pull-through site. In retrospect, we should have saved a couple of bucks and gotten one of the back-in sites overlooking the cabins, but enjoyed our stay there and found it convenient.

Thanks for the KC help

Thanks for the advice. I made reservations for the "nut grove". It does look to be tight but is very close to family in Lenexa. I'll have to try the WOF village sometime so nieces can stay with us there!

hi missy

you'll be very close to family at the nut grove...

and the folks that run the place are nice.

they've got 3-4 pull through slots and the others are all back in...

the park is VERY quick access to i35 or i435 too.

the primary caution is ENTRY/EXIT from the park.

it is on a very busy 4 lane parkway, so getting in/out at rush hour is a challenge.

time your arrival for mid day or evening if possible.

cheer

You'll like the handiness of Nut Grove. We stayed a couple of nights there and it was tight quarters, but worked out OK. It is really close to the interstate and the guys that run it are extremely nice. We would stay there again.

The stay was great!

Thanks for the info! We stayed 2 nights and it was very nice. It was tight quarters but that should be expected in the big city! The owner was very nice and he helped us park. There was a dog walking park at the back. This would be a great place to stay if you needed to travel to KC to work for an extended time. Their wireless was good too.
