Where to go in PA

Hi all,

gonna have a week off the end of Aug and was wondering what parks folks can recommend in PA?

We live near London, Ontario, CANADA and are looking for somewhere within reasonable driving distance of us.

We have a three year old who loves the water so a pool is a must.

Hoping to go to PA only because it's close and such a stark change from Southern Ontario. i.e. hills, trees etc

Appreciate the help...

Thumbs up Pittsburgh

I'm not familliar with the parks in PA, but if you happen to get near Pittsburgh, let me know. I grew up there and can fill you in on what's what in the city based on your interests.
good luck!

Although Pennwood Airstream CG in Limestone, PA doesn't have a pool, it is a beautiful CG with full hookups including cable tv and Wifi internet at $18 per night. It is located in the rolling hills of western PA.

See it at http://pennwood.org/

Limestone is very near my dad's hometown of Clarion. Scenic is right! We angled in the Clarion river quite a few times though anything is exciting to a youngster. Stream fishing isn't very good due to acidification from so many now-closed coal mines. Swimming? I walked across Clarion many times headed for the municipal pool but that was 40+ years ago.

Pick is originally from NE Ohio. He & I have posted in threads on Cook Forest in the same general area as Clarion. Maybe he'll see this thread. Do a search both here at the Forums as well as Google if you want to browse the subject further.

There's a few good places in North Central PA at the Allegheny National Forest. http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/allegheny/ There are some pay parks, aswell as dispersed camping aka boondocking. They have a pay beach, there are places to bike and hike. Another site to check out for PA state parks is http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/ You can see what is available and what there is to do at each park. Clear Creek is a good place to stay, there is lots of stuff to do in Cooks Forest. Worlds end is also a great place. It's the PA Grand Caynon, they have a great biking path, and plenty of hiking trails. In Erie PA just across the lake from you, they just put in a new campground on the lake, which is close to the peninsula, there is also a water/theme park near by. Good Luck, enjoy your vacation!

So do we!

We just stayed at that KOA... awesome. Big pool, and even a small amusement park / game hall on the premises... the kids loved it. One of the nicest KOAs I've stayed at. Pine Grove is at Exit 100 on I81, just about an hour from Lancaster / Omish area, 35-40 minutes to Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop. Be sure to let us know where you go!

While in that area, you can go to Hershey Park (in Hershey, of course), and tour the Gettysburg civil war area, both fun for a youngster.

While in Gettysburg

Try Drummer Boy Camping Resort. It is a really nice place, with two pools, one with a slide. It is large, with Game Room. I think they have a web site.
