Where to go & What to do?

Hi, we have a week or two to go somewhere and do something, but our previous choices [Yellowstone, Yosemite] are closed for camping from September to May. Leaving Southern California and staying in the western states, what suggestions do you have in somewhere to go and what to do? I have a pocket full of gas money and want to use it early in December. Places to go, Things to do. [or see]

Don't know if you've been or not, but I never get tired of seeing the Grand Canyon. Additionally, just North of there is Zion National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park. You should be able to hit them all in a week.

Southern Arizona and New Mexico should do you just fine. If you can't find stuff to do here you aren't looking.

Hey Bob,

Southern AZ is great this time of year, cool nights and sunny warm days. There are some great areas across I-10 in southern AZ and NM. We just returned home from Bisbee AZ which is near Tombstone. Bisbee is a copper mining town and is very eclectic with plenty of shops and art galleries. The Patagonia area is full of wineries and vineyards and I understand that they have wine tastings every weekend. There are state parks dispersed through that area and plenty of RV parks in Tombstone, Bisbee and Benson.

The stretch of original 66 in Az is a great drive, slow, but who cares the scenery is terrific. A real throwback to how it used to be.Route 66 Association of Arizona

Yaah, but it will be cold and possibly snowy this time of year.

My feelings exactly. Save Route 66 (and northern Arizona and northern New Mexico) for spring or fall or summer; stick south for the winter.
