I put a note in a Arkansas thread, but have not seen a reply, so I'm starting my own thread.
We are heading down this weekend. Thought the Jasper area looked good.
Anyone know of a good campground on the river? or overlooking a bluff?
Any situation is fine, dry camping or full hook-ups.
Just looking for a clean, quiet, place with a scenic view. (Water, or Bluff.)

Buffalo River National Park campgrounds are not really meant for RV camping. Most are tent sites. The only one I can think of that might work is Steel Creek. It is where all the horseback folks go and the only one that has enough room for a trailer.

Just searching on line, I came to the same conclusion..
We may end up heading a little more south, not sure.
Not a lot of campgrounds in the area. Kind of weird for such a "recreational" area.
We will be in Branson on Thursday, and have all day Friday to find a spot..

It is a nice spot, but mostly used by car and tent campers I guess. While you are there, drive over to Boxley and watch the Elk herd one evening. Its easy to find and lots of elk.

If you come a little farther east in North Arkansas, the Bull Shoals State park is nice. It is right on the river just below the dam at Bull Shoals. Gaston's Resort is right down the road and they have a wonderful restaurant right on the water.

Gaston's is amazing. Food is great and you sit right on the river's edge. And as you drive "down"; this summer I noticed at least two AS in the trees that may be permanent down there! My favorite place when I visit friends in Mt. Home, Arkansas.
I spent a week in Arkansas three weeks ago (10/10-16) at Buffalo Point and Bull Shoals/White River. Both are excellent campgrounds. Both tend to fill to capacity on weekends. Buffalo Point is NPS and more remote and it was not crowded at all during the week. The river is low but a few people were floating. Campsites are well spaced along the river. Wildlife watching was good early morning; bald eagles, kingfishers, deer.
Bull Shoals/White River is just below the dam and water releases keep it full periodically for the fishermen. Campground is closer spaced. Both have clean restrooms/showers, etc. The leaves were just starting to turn when I was there.
I think you have a 3-day window to make reservations at either campground on reserveAmerica.com.

Buffalo Point sounds very interesting. We will check it out first thing Friday morning to see about sites.
I have fished out of Gaston's before, it is a great place. May have to get over there for a dinner.
Thanks!
