Woke up in Alpen Rose RV Park just north of Durango. Probably a 100 units here and we are the only Airstream. Surrounded by behemoth motor coaches. Our unit looks like a baby sandwiched between two units. This is more like sardines in a can.

However, the showers, bathrooms and laundry and common areas with pool are quite nice. They prepare, for a fee, a huge breakfast every morning.

A few days ago, we stayed in a lovely state park Aspen Glade on highway 17 about 17 miles west of Antonito, CO beside the river. No connections, but the midday sun hit the solar panels to recharge the batteries. Spaces had very tall Ponderosa pines and bushes so one felt they had the place to themselves.

Where did you wake up this Sunday morning

Taidnapam RV park. The name is a slight misnomer, as there were plenty of tents there too. Delightful campground. We liked the older section better, where we stayed, but the whole place was a delight. Plenty of trees, decent amount of room per campsite, and decent amounts of undergrowth in between for privacy. It's right on a reservoir, so lots of boating and fishing activities as well. Lots of kids and bikes all around. It was a really nice place to camp for the weekend.

The only downside were the flotillas of vicious, hungry and over-eager mosquitos everywhere. Bring oodles of insect repellent. Be prepared to use it plenty / often. We even had to put it on our poor dog to keep them away from his face. However, since we use non-toxic repellent we felt safe doing that.

Campground: http://www.mytpu.org/tacomapower/par...napam-park.htm
Repellent: http://www.badgerbalm.com/p-465-anti...ake-spray.aspx

As far as we could tell, we were the only Airstream.

This is Oh Ridge campground just outside of June Lake (site #29). Our favorite campground of the many we have been to. Been going here for 20 years.

Keith

PS. The trout fishing is great as well!

I'll be the September 16 and 17. Looks somewhat lackluster. I don't think I'll use it for our home base while exploring and sightseeing. I think I would enjoy a state park or Corps park or Forest Service park with a lake more.

m.hony, surprisingly, I believe Ohio only has one COE campground, and that is not close to the Mother Ship. Certainly, tho, there should be a SP somewhat close.

We have fallen in love with COE's and were disappointed that we don't have more in Ohio. There is one I've read about in WVA off of I-77 which is supposed to be very, very nice -- actually so nice that it's difficult to get in to, but they don't allow pets. The "no pet" stipulation is something we're trying to get over; we may go there sometime that we've decided to board our Doodle just to check them out.

Some of our goofing off and touring will be in Indiana. I think they may have some good state parks. We'll play it by ear from Wednesday on. We know where we'll be Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

I hope I didn't mislead you, Ohio has some lovely state parks, it's just that there is only one Corps of Engineers campground that I am aware of. Please do try our state parks. September/October is a wonderful time to camp in Ohio.

I've stayed in Ohio state parks. They were great.
However, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, the Packard Museum, the Studebaker Museum, the RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame, and Holiday World are all in Indiana-
I might prefer to make an Ohio state park my home base rather than the Terraport for the Bicycle Museum, the Air Force museum, and the John Armstrong Air and Space museum-
The Terraport and Jackson Center on the whole appear boring and lackluster. After trailer repairs and a factory tour we will probably push on/shove off. 2 nights at the Terraport is probably all we'll need.

We received the membership certificate when we arrived last night.

We awakened after our first night on our lot at the Airstream only campground (Ponderosa Shadows at Lakeside, AZ also known as Show Low). There are Square Streams, fifth wheel Airstreams, Airstream motorhomes and of course trailers. We are surrounded by Ponderosa Pines.

Woke up at home, in beautiful Minnetonka Minnesota, after a 4000 mile trip to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Vancouver Washington.

Wonderful trip. Only problems were a blown air conditioner and a split wheel. Saw lots of lovely Airstreams, and a few Avions and an old Silver Streak.

Talking Sunday Morning!

We woke up Sunday morning at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, California. In the summer they have reservations, after Sept (not sure of my memory here...) it is first come first served. They also (during summer season) have some campsites that are available for one night. No hookups, but great hiking, next to a lovely river, nice restrooms with showers, etc. Near the California/Oregon Border along the coast. The Redwoods are wonderful!
