When they say flash flood warning........

better pay attention. This video was taken in southern Utah 40 miles from the storm. Very interesting for sure.

I thought Elkmont was impressive

I spent the summer at Elmont National Park and thought the campground river/creek rising 4 to 5 feet with an afternoon showerr that lasted one hour was impressive. Well, it was just in a different and powerful way. Be safe around that water and waterways no matter where you are.

Trippy how the leading edge of it doesn't even appear to be wet. I notice that the videographer a) doesn't take care to observe from higher ground and b) ran off and left his wife at one point. Two things likely to lead to trouble!

Am I the only one who thinks he's nuts to be standing down in the riverbed with that coming towards him? Ah, the over-confidence of youth!

Reminds me of the tornado followers that were killed a few months ago. Remeber the TV commercial a while back "IT'S NOT NICE TO FOOL MOTHER NATURE". I believe in that.

These people are nuts. My family and I were camping in the hill country of Texas. We had a flash flood that brought a 30 ft wall of water down the river. It took cars, houses and concrete bridges in it's path. We were fortunate to be able to get out in time.

We had a flood wipe out our town, 350 homes, 71 businesses including mine with 52" of flood water that only took 30minutes to do the damage. I rebuilt as did most businesses, took 3 months, the power of water is never something to toy with.

Where I grew up in southwest Oklahoma, the Red River only flows when there's a flash flood. Most of the year, it's a trickle a yard wide and an inch deep, in a riverbed twenty feet deep and a quarter mile wide. But come a flash flood, and it's over its banks. And over the bridges.

The spring thaws do a number on the Missisippi and Atchafalaya... The Morganza Spillway, a massive undertaking still "works" today.

Send a message via Skype™ to Melody Ranch
worth repeating

A few years ago I posted the info on my Friends experience in a flash flood with his RV.

Texas....Garner State Park, Concan RV Park. My Friend and his Wife parked and set up for the weeks vacation on the edge of the Frio River at the Park. Heavy rain forecast, but way North and West. No other warnings...They did not have a weather radio.

Sometime around 0100, in pitch darkness, they heard a muffled roar and felt the trailer shudder a bit. Gary got up and peeked outside....the ground was covered with flowing water. That increased rapidly and the trailer lifted off, swung around and rolled. All power was lost, they were in complete darkness and the trailer continued to roll.....it did come to a stop minutes later with water flowing rapidly thru the interior. They were still in complete darkness, and disoriented from the rolling and complete wreck around them. They were lucky, to a point, in that they were hung up on the branches of a tree and avoided complete disintegration in the flood path. They stayed in the semi submerged trailer for an eternity until some rescuers found them and an exit was made thru a missing window.
Lesson...know you surroundings.
Have a weather radio.
Have emergency lights handy.

Hmmm... this definitely gives food for thought.

I keep one of my many flashlights on the little tray on top of the light at the head of my bed and think I'm prepared. Roll the trailer over on its side in the dark, and I'm not prepared anymore. I never really considered the trailer not being upright.

So glad the made it. It must have been terrifying. We were only about 30 minutes from Garner state park when we experienced the flood. could have been the same flood. The hill country is beautiful but can be dangerous when they have heavy rain up river.
