worth repeating

A few years ago I posted the info on my Friends experience in a flash flood with his RV.

Texas....Garner State Park, Concan RV Park. My Friend and his Wife parked and set up for the weeks vacation on the edge of the Frio River at the Park. Heavy rain forecast, but way North and West. No other warnings...They did not have a weather radio.

Sometime around 0100, in pitch darkness, they heard a muffled roar and felt the trailer shudder a bit. Gary got up and peeked outside....the ground was covered with flowing water. That increased rapidly and the trailer lifted off, swung around and rolled. All power was lost, they were in complete darkness and the trailer continued to did come to a stop minutes later with water flowing rapidly thru the interior. They were still in complete darkness, and disoriented from the rolling and complete wreck around them. They were lucky, to a point, in that they were hung up on the branches of a tree and avoided complete disintegration in the flood path. They stayed in the semi submerged trailer for an eternity until some rescuers found them and an exit was made thru a missing window.
Lesson...know you surroundings.
Have a weather radio.
Have emergency lights handy.

Hmmm... this definitely gives food for thought.

I keep one of my many flashlights on the little tray on top of the light at the head of my bed and think I'm prepared. Roll the trailer over on its side in the dark, and I'm not prepared anymore. I never really considered the trailer not being upright.

I don't think my wife would camp again.

Glad they survived!!!!

So glad the made it. It must have been terrifying. We were only about 30 minutes from Garner state park when we experienced the flood. could have been the same flood. The hill country is beautiful but can be dangerous when they have heavy rain up river.
