What year are these trailers?

This is a photo of four trailers I saw at Jackson Center. They are located inside a fenced lot next to the Airstream factory. Does anyone know what year they are? Also, what is the story behind the finish of the gold-colored trailer?

The gold colored one was Wally's caravan trailer. The others are early models. The one with the pointy windows I think is an original clipper, if it is that would make it a 36?

Enquiring minds want to know why would Wally Byam's trailer be gold-colored when the whole Airstream line is based on silver-colored aluminum trailers?

I'd like to know what kind of idiot would they leave them outside!! What, dare the god of hail to wreak havoc on these irreplaceable beauties?? They belong in a museum!

(In between camping trips of course)

trailer ID

Top left photo trailer shows a 1947 to 1949 Curtis-Wright (or 1949 and later Silver Streak, the successor company) "Clipper" model trailer mislabed as an Airstream on it's front prow. This is Wally Byam's first postwar design for an aluminum travel trailer when he worked for Curtis-Wright immediately after WW II. It belongs in the Airstream stable but not labeled as one.

Top right photo shows a late 1930's tandem-axled Airstream "Clipper", informally named "Old Grandad" and stated to be a 1936 trailer. Airstream ads from the late 1940's label a similar trailer as a 1938 model. See Bryan Burkhart's Airstream book at p. 71 for a side view.

Lower left photo shows a 1947 to 1949 Airstream "Liner" that looks to be 22' long by the number and spacing of its roof vents. This is Airstream's first style postwar production trailer.

Lower right hand photo shows Wally and Stella's 1957-ish 22' tandem axle "World Traveller" model Airstream. Its outside aluminum panels are all gold anodized, hence the color. A b&w photo of this trailer is on page 108 of Bryan's book.

History in a meadow.

The gold-colored trailer certainly is "different" but I personally prefer the silver color! I guess the "boss" can do what he wants!

Thanks, Fred! The depth of your knowledge and the width of your research never ceases to amaze me!
