What was the nicest thing campers before you left behind?

We just pulled into our campsite at O'Leno State Park in Florida. Sitting next to the fire ring was a goodly sized pile of firewood the campers before us must have left behind. Since the last two nights have been pretty chilly, we used most of our firewood at the previous campground, so this firewood was a nice surprise! What was the nicest surprise the campers before you left behind?

While drying camping in Key West a neighbor gifted me a true sine wave 1000 inverter that was still in the sealed box never used. He had bought it for a previous trailer. He discovered that he already had a 2000 installed in his new trailer. I have never used it but am all set if I need too. Been gifted good firewood several times.

Good for you, all I get is garbage in the fire ring.

Back in my hiking/camping days the motto was "always leave a campsite better than you found it".

I always find myself picking up bits of trash left behind now.

Not exactly left behind, but the nicest things other campers have done for me was to take pity on me when I was still learning to back the trailer, and offer to put it into the spot for me. Hopefully I'll feel confident enough one of these days to return the favor. I'm confident enough now to park my own trailer, but not quite confident enough to park someone else's.

I've done it for others, but was always concerned about liability. Probably won't do it again unless an emergency. I back trailers far larger for a living but its ALWAYS a crap shoot at one point or another.

Backing comprises 90% of big truck "accidents".

As to nice gifts: a brand new dogbone adaptor.

Our dog would likely mention the steak bone left behind at a site she found quickly upon our arrival one time. We've also had a few spots that had leftover firewood we were happy to put to use.

I left a couple bundles of wood and a box of fire starters. Didn't realize it until I got home and was unpacking the truck. Made me think the next people in that site were going to be happy for the gift 😀

At another site, the camper next to us was seasonal. He was headed out for several days and told us to help ourselves to his wood stack. Might my neighborly of him! We obliged by taking one log 😀

Thanks! You don't know how good this makes me feel. There ALWAYS seems to be some point where I'm backing up based on faith alone without really seeing where I'm going. Happy to know it's not just me!

While owning the RV park, we found quite a few things left behind. Nearly all of it was junk, or stuff that you can hardly use, or don't want to. How about a used sewer hose attachment stuck down in the sewer hole? Or two or three of them?

In truth, we kept a lot of it for the park (though not the sewer attachments). Figured that if one person left it behind, then it was something that somebody else would likely show up without. Kind of a community supply of used stuff: Take one, leave one.

Oh, and we kept a special supply for vintage Airstreams. Some Vulkem. Thetford fittings. You know, things that we needed for our Airstream anyway.

a clean campsite - no firewood, no bottle caps, no pull tabs, no cigarette butts, trash can empty, no left over clothes lines ... left it better than they found it! The reality is trash attracts trash and if people pull into a site with a bunch-o-trash they will add to it. Pay it forward ...

I think the nicest thing we ever received was pulling up to our campsite and finding a motor home there with the keys in it. That was really a special gift! We were so tickled, because we had inside storage for it so we could keep it out of the weather, and out of sight...

We usually bring more firewood than we need. I don't like re packing it and bringing back so I usually leave it stacked at the site for the next camper.

Our last camping trip to Ottersprings the camp Host informed us that they have to put up and remove all left over firewood. Not wanting to make more work for camp hosts, I ask before leaving it.
