What was that noise?
Just spent a wonderful week camping in the new AS at San Augustine COE park in the Texas piney woods  All went really well (especially the campfire Thanksgiving turkey!) but we were awakened early this morning by a loud bang. At first I thought it was just an acorn falling on the roof, then heard the same sound again about an hour later. Sounded like a loud pop coming from the front left side (near the water heater maybe). The water heater was not on. Propane was on but furnace wasn't running at the time. It happened again after we woke up and it was definitely not acorns! Sounded almost like metal popping. Any ideas what could have caused the sound?

Some AS units have an issue with the bellypan 'tin canning' when temperature or stress in the belly pan changes. There are some other threads on this issue.

Was anyone moving in the AS at time of the sound? Was it a metallic sound or percussion?

Nobody was moving. We were asleep the first time it happened. It was a loud pop, not ringing or rumbling.

Sometimes the Aluminum skin on the outside will change --or as it changes temp, will pop. Just depends on your skins age I guess. But thats what this one does - and not all the time...Just depends on the weather outside.

If the sound was coming from near the water heater, it could have BEEN the water heater making that sound. Pressure relief valve is one possibility. Another possibility is heat from the water heater cause the "oil-canning" effect that others described. After all, the water heater comes on and goes off according to the thermostat, so there is heating and cooling happening all the time.

Try leaving water heater off during the night. As a routine we always turn ours off and the first person up turns it back on. We sleep better (No jet sound) and save propane.

We never turned the water heater on. Just the furnace, but it wasn't running at the time.

If the sun was overhead enough to beat on it in the Texas warmth I would look to the aluminum flexing. Overnight cold on one side and bright sunlit warmth on the other. Check around to see if any rivets may have popped. Hopefully nothing more than a new trailer flexing it's skin a bit. We did not get our trailer NEW so we've not had such experiences.

As the sun comes up and the temperatures increase the trailer makes popping sounds as the aluminum is heating up and expanding.
My wife will ask, "What was That?"
I'll reply, "Nothing, really. The sun is warming up the metal and it is expanding."

So that's it
Just wanted to say this old thread set my mind at ease.
Camping at Denali and this morning I thought tree branches were falling on me, or someone was throwing rocks at my Bambi. I kept popping out and looking all around. No overhanging trees, no debris field.
But it was quite cool last night and pretty warm (for Denali) this morning.
Just odd that I've had the camper for two years and this is the first time it happened.

Bigfoot; no doubt. They are known to throw rocks at Campers, or at least that's the lore in a great podcast I've been listening to.
While the thermal expansion suggestions seem to be the most logical and reasonable explanations, a curious Bigfoot is the one that I like best.

I for one am positive that the local trash pandas are having their fun with me for denying them access into my trash can. They watch from the brush you see and have observed my routine... they wake me with thrown sticks and such and retreat into concealment cackling and high fiving each other... 🤨

Like a breathing sound
We have a 2014 flying cloud with a front queen bed. There is a breathing sound under the bed. Could also be a creaking noise. I do need new batteries, anything out there to make me more wise.
