What to see in OR and WA?
Thinking of taking a trip into Oregon and Washington and looking for some cool stuff to see.
We have some young kids, six and under, and an 18 year old.
Open to theme parks, landmarks, national parks, etc...
Anything we should make sure not to miss?

Crater Lake NP in Oregon is a definite must see. Also, the entire Oregon coast is beautiful with lots of expansive beaches and rocky cliffs. Oregon State Parks in general are very nice and RV friendly.

I enjoyed the Erratic Rock, but that's just me.
Also, the Spruce Goose Museum might be worth a look.
Take them to Fort Clatsop (?) the terminus of Lewis and Clark's journey, then to Astoria and tell them that's where "Goonies" was supposed to have taken place.
Right across the Columbia R from there, you'll find some old (WW2 and earlier) forts and a couple of cool lighthouses.
Beautiful area.
Would be worth walking around downtown Portland for a while just to see how a city can be done. We really enjoyed it.

JUST HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE??
Coming up from CA, you can hop over to Crater Lake NP. You won't believe that water can be so blue!!!!
The old ghost towns at Shaniko.
The OR coast, anywhere from Gold Beach to Astoria.
Definitely hit the Columbia River Gorge with Multnomah Falls. Try your hand at Windsurfing at Hood River (or just watch), go up to Mt. Hood and have dinner at Timberline Lodge (incredible views)......shall I continue????????
White water rafting on the White Salmon River (Class 4/5) in S. Washington, or go down the Deschutes River (milder) from Maupin, OR. Rent some bikes (unless you have your own) and ride the closed to cars 'Old Columbia River Highway Trail' which is now a State Park and runs from Hood River to the next town to the East...Mosier and see how they built roadways in the 20's. Very gentle slopes.
Now if you plan on spending more than a couple of days here, I'll get a more complete list together for you........

Oh...take the jet boat (either the Mail Boat or Jerry's) up the Rogue River through the rapids from Gold Beach, Oregon.

Oregon trip
We are new to the Airstream scene. Just bought a 66 Caravel, and starting to do some restoration. We live in Silverton, OR. As to your trip. I'd like to put up for your consideration (depending on your interests) : Silver Falls State Park (10 mi. SE of Silverton) and the Oregon Garden (in Silverton). Check 'em out on Google. I also agree with the suggestions to see Crater Lake and the Aviation Museum in McMinnville (Spruce Goose and SO much more). If possible a run up the Columbia Gorge (Portland to The Dalles or maybe a bit further) is definitely worthwhile. See two or three dams, incredible changing scenery, wind- and kite-surfing in Hood River. If you end up in the Silverton area, look us up.

I would recommend Powell's Bookstore in Portland, Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver WA, and Pike Place Market in Seattle. Try the chowder at Pike Place Chowder.

Here's a couple more must sees:
- Ecola State Park just on the north side of Cannon Beach
- The Aquarium at Seaside, right on the boardwalk. Their seals splash you if you don't feed them fast enough. Great for kids.
- Cannery Row in Coos Bay
- Tillamook Cheese Factory in Tillamook of course.
- Air Museum also in Tillamook. World's largest wooden structure. Unbelieveable!!
How much more time do we have? Let us know if your itinerary isn't full yet.

We spend six weeks each year in Oregon and Washington.
Fish and Chips at the Chart Room in Crescent City, CA.
A drive along the Oregon Coast is best done from north to south as there are so many places to pull out for the great views, and heading north, you must cross the highway.
Air Museum just south of Tillamook, OR
World Kite Museum in Long Beach Washington. World Kite Museum and Washington State International Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington
Washington State International Kite Festival also in Long Beach Washington.
World Kite Museum and Washington State International Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington
Bob's Sporting Goods in Longview, WA. If they don't have it, you don't need it. It's the Powell's Books of sporting goods stores.
If you do go to Powell/s Books in Portland, be sure to go around the corner to Winks Hardware. Neat old store.
I could go on, but I won't.

And if you go to Powell's, you've gotta go to have lunch at Pete's Fish just up the street and around the corner. Been there forever. Now I'm getting hungry again.

Here is a picture of the Air Museum and it doesn't even come close to doing it justice.

Actually, I'm in a private RV park with one site ....Parked at a friend's house where I made my own connections and space just a couple of minutes from Oak Street.
I have stayed at the Sunset RV park and motel (across from Safeway) and it was fine for a couple of months before I found my current spot. This RV park is going away at the end of Oct. to make way for more motel rooms.
There are the 2 State Park campgrounds, one west of town at Viento and the other one east of town at Memaloose. Both are right on the highway, and Viento is on the BNSF tracks and can get LOUD!!!!! The Bridgemart CG in Bingen, WA just across the Hood River bridge is OK, but sandwiched between the bridge, State Hwy 15 and the other railroad on the Washington side.
There is also a KOA in Cascade locks which is nice....but also along the tracks.
There is a nice little pocket CG just south of HR on Tucker Road (Dee Highway) but I don't know about hook-ups there, and then there is Toll Bridge County Park with camp sites about 15 miles south of town on Hwy 35 on the way to Mt. Hood. Very quiet and bucolic, too.

My favorite places this past week. Black sand beach northern CA is AWESOME. IMO nicest beach i saw on CA and Oregon coast. Crater lake, prettier than lake Tahoe. Cape Argo, sea lion lookout. Spruce Goose is huge and is well worth seeing, a bunch of planes and other fighter jets. IMAX Too. I'm there right now, nice rv site right next door, i can see the building out my window. Heated Pool for kids and wife, wifi and cable for you, lol. I'm going to columbia river gorge tomorrow. George

George,
Tomorrow is the summer solstice and in 'The Gorge' it's traditional to participate in at least 3 sports........like a dawn patrol skiing on Mt. Hood in the early AM, then kayaking on the White Salmon river, then throw in either a road ride or mountain bike ride for an hour or two, then hit the river (Columbia....that is) in the afternoon for a quick windsurfing session if the wind gods are favorable. (that's 4.......but we stop counting after 3 )
Then hit one of the several Solstice parties and dance 'till dawn.......
Sound good??
