What the best-dressed AS shoppers wear

Finally, finally after Bambi got badly thumpered in late August, our insurance adjustor decided to come through for us after all, and we get to go shopping for a new one.

Not wanting to appear inappropriately attired for this important event, I thought to seek your advice. My thoughts:

1. Wear something metallic.

2. Wear something light gray and sort-of shiny.

3. Dress upscale for one's preferred camping experience.

(such as: resort wear for the snowbirds, active-lifestyle spandex gear and helmets for the mountain bikers, woodsy woolens plus binocular accessories for the heritage camping set, desert khakis and pocket GPSs for the Colorado Plateau crowd, nautical wear for the Land Yacht concept,.....)

4. Wear your old clothes. With the money you'll be spending on an Airstream (and for us, a new truck, too,) you won't be able to afford new clothes for a long time to come. Spare the wear on your current good ones.

I say wear something you would wear on vacations that gives a feeling of joy.

Want to start out with the right juju.

First time I went shopping, I wore a RonJon shirt from Key West, but YMMV (your mileage may vary)

Just wear the T-shirt that says "I am with her" and let her decide!

I usually dress in old clothes to test the salesperson willingness to discuss their product. If they ignore me I go else where.

LOL! Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Since I am the "her" part of our duo, I like this one a lot. I'll see if I can find one for Len.
I checked out those RonJon shirts-- I wouldn't know which side of a surf board is up, but they could make me feel as though I did.

Other possibilities:

5. Mechanic-type guys, for sure wear something suitable for sliding underneath the trailer to check out its construction. Probably something sturdy and dark gray to match the concrete, vs. the lighter gray that would match the AS.

6. Ladies, wear your most expensive jewelry, in case you have to pawn it to help pay for your AS. (Since I don't own any, this one wouldn't work so well for us.)

7. Or wear these cute Airstream earrings.

8. If you travel with your dog, make sure it is suitably attired for the occasion, as well. (Photo courtesy of member ctdare.)

I ordered mine from vendor in Arizona--check on the Airforums classified under 'Special Services & Products'. Cost about $25 & she is very quick to mail the items to you.

Wear something that makes you look poor - they'll jack up the price if they see you coming in dressed all fancy

Are you getting same airstream or different size? I say old clothes, act like it is your first.

Seconded. And something you don't mind getting dirty, because you'll want to poke your nose into every nook and cranny to find any flaws. Not only because you want to know what you're getting into, but because every flaw is a negotiating point.

Birkenstocks, cargo shorts, and a Life is Good t-shirt-
I have what I think of as "southern genteel gentleman" attire in the trailer for Sunday-go-to-meeting- linen suits, cotton pinstripe suits, seersucker suits, bow ties, derby, boler, fedora, or straw hats, and loafers-
Retro clothes for a retro RV-

Do not wear any Airstream Apparrel. Just think how much more you know to look for in this AS, Protag is right, you will be checking everything.

Good question and I am just now putting in my 2 cents worth because I have been deer hunting.
In 1990 I bought a new Ford Taurus SHO as in Super High Output, so named because when they were introduced in 1989 Ford was using Yamaha racing engines in them. We enjoyed that car a lot because of both the performance and economy. In the fall of 1992 the 93 year models had arrived at the dealers and we were interested in a new one. It so happened my wife and I had to pass a Ford dealership on the way to our lease where we were going to work, like cutting brush and stand repair. Having dressed for that kind of work, jeans, work boots, old shirts, etc, we stopped to look at a new SHO they had. As we were looking, a salesman in his tie and starched shirt, walked by, and without slowing down, said "You might want to at that Taurus LX because it is a lot less money." I replied, no, I am driving an SHO now. He looked like a calf that had been roped and run into the end of the rope when he turned to come back. We have laughed about it many times how you are so often judged by the way you are dressed.

Guy walks into the Ferrari dealership: six days' growth, old polo shirt, holes in the knees of his raggedy jeans.

Salesman treats him right. He buys a Testarossa for cash.

The salesman noticed his shoes: Cole-Haan loafers, $300.
