Birkenstocks, cargo shorts, and a Life is Good t-shirt-
I have what I think of as "southern genteel gentleman" attire in the trailer for Sunday-go-to-meeting- linen suits, cotton pinstripe suits, seersucker suits, bow ties, derby, boler, fedora, or straw hats, and loafers-
Retro clothes for a retro RV-

Do not wear any Airstream Apparrel. Just think how much more you know to look for in this AS, Protag is right, you will be checking everything.

Good question and I am just now putting in my 2 cents worth because I have been deer hunting.
In 1990 I bought a new Ford Taurus SHO as in Super High Output, so named because when they were introduced in 1989 Ford was using Yamaha racing engines in them. We enjoyed that car a lot because of both the performance and economy. In the fall of 1992 the 93 year models had arrived at the dealers and we were interested in a new one. It so happened my wife and I had to pass a Ford dealership on the way to our lease where we were going to work, like cutting brush and stand repair. Having dressed for that kind of work, jeans, work boots, old shirts, etc, we stopped to look at a new SHO they had. As we were looking, a salesman in his tie and starched shirt, walked by, and without slowing down, said "You might want to at that Taurus LX because it is a lot less money." I replied, no, I am driving an SHO now. He looked like a calf that had been roped and run into the end of the rope when he turned to come back. We have laughed about it many times how you are so often judged by the way you are dressed.

Guy walks into the Ferrari dealership: six days' growth, old polo shirt, holes in the knees of his raggedy jeans.

Salesman treats him right. He buys a Testarossa for cash.

The salesman noticed his shoes: Cole-Haan loafers, $300.

Great advice, folks!

Protagonist, your attire recommendations make me think of mechanical guy attire, #5 above. For a true authentic look, maybe guys could strategically pre-apply some grease stains.

To Gulls, I saw the AS earrings at Airstream Earrings .

The recommendation of wearing old clothes is generating approval. For sure if we don't start out that way, we'll be wearing them soon after emptying the piggy bank.

I was thinking of wearing green, the colour of money, in the hope that the Law of Attraction applied here.

Sbb, we actually liked our 16-footer. After years of tent camping, we thought it was palatial; and it got us into some wonderful campsites in public lands that we couldn't have managed with a bigger trailer. It was reasonably economical to tow, and, well, awfully cute. We are now thinking of the 19-foot Flying Cloud, because once one goes above 20' you can't squeeze into many of the older back-in national park and forest campsites. The new 16-footer now only comes in the Sport version, although it is possible to add on the rear bumper, stone guards, & some other upgrades. However, we just made a down-payment on a Toyota Tundra with a V8, so I am feeling nervous about catching two-foot-itis at the dealership.

We'll report back after shopping tomorrow-- and thanks, fashionistas!

Oh, I hope my advice comes to you in time for your shopping excursion.

My thoughts are - first impressions count.

Wear a nice top. from the TravelSmith.com catalog

Then...

Pretend you are "slumming it"

Neiman Marcus website "lastCall.com" has fabulous sales, so you will want:

Select from one of These pants:

Paper Denim & Cloth
(Orginally $218.00 now $59.50)

MiracleBody -

Then you will need to complete your "proper" shopping attire with:

Tom Ford
Lennon Tortoise Acetate Square Sunglasses
Were $380.00 now $199.00

Also, P-l-e-a-s-e note--- all proper shopping "collections" include 4-inch high heels. I'd like to suggest red shoes to demonstrate your 'Flare'.

Since you will not be negotiating price on this first visit, play with it. Have fun. Look great.
The 'poor me' look should come later. This could include proper "sculpting" make-up to emphasize high cheek bones and a sad "drawn" look.

Oh, you have made my morning just a little bit happier by letting me have fun with your question. Hope it's ok with you. I don't mean to offend, just joke around.

Actually, I wish I were there to have fun with you. Shopping for an AS by definition has to be fun no matter what you are wearing.
Enjoy your very special day.

Mockinbrd, if I looked as good as that model, I'd wear clothes & a hairstyle like that, also. Sadly, with heavy-duty orthotics, I gave away my last pair of heels a decade ago. But I like the idea of ruby slippers, as per Del's link.

Del, the Tin Woodman's costume would be a droll touch, especially on October 31. Unfortunately it was raining buckets today and I recall that he kept rusting up without his oil can.

In consideration of the weather, we opted for the gently-used R.E.I. functional-casual look. Note Len's 1990s vintage fleece pull-over, cool hat, and my expedition-worthy foul-weather jacket.

This is us, posed in front of our new-to-be 2015 19' Bambi Flying Cloud, at Airstream of Spokane.

If any sartorialists on this thread wish to offer a fashion critique, please either keep it to yourself-- or be gentle with us.

- Have a friend with old beater car drop you off.
- Call and make an appointment so the salesman sees you unload from the car... (have your friend feed some Marvel Mystery Oil into the carb as you drive into the property.. it will clean his engine top end and leave a nice blue streak of exhaust)...
- Show up in 'work clothes' with a little dirt in your pocket... stick your hand in as you walk up then, wipe your hand off on your britches before shaking the salesman's hand..
- Definitely, be prepared to crawl on the ground and inspect from dirt to sky... and do it.
- pull a sandwich out of your pocket while chatting with the salesman.
- look at the SOB's for a while then say... "ooooh... them thar ar shineeee! Reminds me of my kettle up on Bradbury Ridge...you know the one Maw!!! Lessee some of them!"

I had a salesman tell me.. "when you are serious and have your financing nailed down, call and make a reservation to see one.. we set them up for you when you are ready to buy."

He doesn't 'work' there anymore.
