I'm just hoping N. Korea doesn't start something that the world will feel for yrs to come.

ok fuel prices have been declining a bit the last few days...

unleaded in the 2.60-2.70 range and diesel back to 3 dollars...

also i realize we now post about fuel in the 'fuel price watch' thread...

but i thought this old thread...all of 3 years,

with prices at less than 1.50!

was just too good not to pull up again....

plus ya gotta like a thread started by a guy named john...

i mean who wouldn't want that forum name

perhaps at some point a mod can paste this info on to the FRONT end

of the current price watch thread...

last week i pulled my airstream from jersey to WI. i'm towing with a dodge cummins - diesel was cheapest in jersey at $2.79 and the most expensive in WI at $3.30. in between IN had the closest prices to jersey at $2.87.

looking at these old prices from '03 has me longing for the days when we were complaining about $1.79.

$90 fill-ups suck. i wonder if this will be laughable in three more years. i'm hoping to have my veggie tank installed by the end of the year.

has this book been discussed yet? it talks about how the fed govt pays farmers not to grow corn in order to artificially inflate the cost of veggie oil. the book goes on to discuss how ferdinand diesel originally designed his engine to run on veggie oil but was told by the industry he had to run it on petroleum. the book also discusses how we export $65 billion to our middle eastern enemies who try and kill westerners every day while we are retarding the development of alternative fuels here at home.

this book is a must read if you drive a big truck that pulls a big trailer down the road. okay...for a closer here - the book discusses that our future fuel source will be........algae. yup - one of the most abundant and renewable resources on earth. why haven't we heard about this? ask the oil man sitting in the white house.

i hope most of the book is more accurate than the part you mention about

mr diesel and peanut oil.

my reading suggests he really was designing his engine to burn...

coal dust....or micronized coal. he really wanted a coal burning engine!

turns out this stuff is extremely flammable...and combustion is hard to control.

so the switch was made to liquid fuels....

but his basic concept is still sound.

with enough compression many things will combust.

the REALLY BIG DEAL right now,

is the selling of hot fuel...

not stolen, but warm.

the local newpaper did a series recently exposing this issue...

warm fuel rips of us consumers....

gas is supposed to be kept at a 65 or so...

some places have gas at 90+ degrees...and are supposed to have priceing meters that 'adjust for temp'...

gas expands when warm so less in a gallon; less mpg too.

how big a deal is this? you ask

kall i forn ya just opened an investigation based on this midwestern news...

in the golden state alone consumers were fleeced for 500 MILLION last year.

expect other states or the dc boys to start investigations soon.

so now we need to carry a thermometer...

if the gas is over 70 or so...demand a free gallon or 2!

there is no scandle in terms of the president being an oil man. he is what he is. the mandate issued by his financial supports, once in office, was to help the oil companies be more profitable. it appears at $3/gallon the mission has been accomplished - the oil co's are enjoying record profits on our backs.

developing bio fuels will help create thousands of good paying jobs in the US. it will reduce our need to ship US dollars to our enemies, and oh yeah - it's good for the environment. the exhaust from bio fuels is CO2 - you know, the stuff that trees breath vs carbon monoxide which hurts the envirnment.

for all of the money the US govt has spent securing our oil interest (war) in the middle east, we could have kicked off wide scale development of bio fuels here at home.

2air - this whole hot gas / cold gas is new info to me. if fuel is stored underground at gas stations - shouldn't be cool based on storage proximity?

finally got a local gas price that's LOWER...

1.98$ for regla' at the liberty mo, valero...
