Urban Legends Reference Pages: Don't Buy Gas on May 15

Hoax, recycled thanks to the internet.

Higher on base than in town

Prices tonight were $2.78/gallon. This is down from a day os so ago. The problem is that one the the perks of the military is that the shoppette is supposed to have gas cheaper than off post fuel n gos. We are higher than the off post vendors.

What a nice perk huh?

I didn't take time to read the Urban Legends explanation so I may be rehashing what they said, but logic would tell one that these 73,000,000 people would have to buy gas on 5/14 or 5/16 in order to have gas to carry on their day to day activities on 5/15, etc. The only effect it would have on the oil companies would be that on those two days they would have a higher revenues to make up for the one day when everybody boycotted. The only message that would send is, "We don't like the price of fuel, but you have us by the goodies and we have no choice but to pay the price one way or the other." And filling up on 5/14 or waiting until 5/16 will clearly prove it.

These type of e-mails are designed to get people to pass them along to "everybody" to clog up servers. Kind of soft cyber terrorism if you ask me.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I felt that it would be nice if we could bite back sometime.

Have to agree with Minnes Mate for the most part. It is a futal attempt to send a message that will never be recieved. At the end of the week who cares even though it was concieved with good intentions.

Just noticed tonight that the 2 stations nearest home are both at $3.05. I'm between Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, DE.

$3.59 for regular...ooooch!

It would be nice to send a message of "we're fed up with this and we aren't going to take it anymore!" but there is very little way to do that.

Oh my! Prices are high in Georgia! I'll have to dig into my piggy bank for the upcoming trip to International!
I recently calculated my gas needs for the round trip to Perry, using $3.00/gallon for pricing and it came out to $730 in gasoline costs. I will have to recalculate using the $3.59 to be on the safe side.

I guess I won't complain then about my local prices of $2.95 in Mass!

With regards to your comment about "we aren't going to take it anymore", I too wish there was something we can do. But there are a few changes I've made in my life to ease the burden of these high prices:

1) Commute with others to work
2) Plan all my errand runs into a single run out.
3) Put my motorcycle on the road earlier this year (60 miles to the gallon)!
4) Ride my bicycle locally for errands

This week: $3.15 in the Chicago suburbs. In Chicago, the downtown part of the city: anywhere from $3.50 to $3.75 depending on what grade you buy.
