Regular Shell at one station is $3.13 a gallon. We never go there but lots of people do! Our local Sunoco in the middle of the woods near nothing is $2.84 and their diesel is $3.14. The NTSA and AAA predict the national average will be over $3.00 per gallon by driving season which means in our neck of the woods it should settle to around $3.75 a gaqllon for regular.

Our dollar was only US 72¢ a few years ago. Canadians travelling in the US then felt gas was almost free there.
Same thing up here in Ottawa.

I remember a few short years ago (April '08) we were paying around $4.85 per gallon........

So $3.75 is CHEAP! haha... sorta kidding.

Seriously - when we travel in the States, it's sad that we consider any gas price to be a bargain.

I know I sound like a broken record, but it sucks paying so much for cell phone service, gas, etc...

Remember the days when a bail of hay and a scoop of grain for the horse was two bits and a call from a pay phone was only a nickle?

I don't, but even if I did, I'd probably grumble about it!

Howdy and welcome to airforums, mate!

Don't forget to convert your Imperial gallons to US gallons to compare. I know it's still more dear, but perhaps not quite as bad as you think!

Hi aage
we have Litres over here and its around average of $1.29 a litre for standard unleaded
up to $1.45 for premium and the exchange rate is about 91 cents in the dollar so $6.00 to $6.50 is good enough reason to convert to LP gas at $2.70 a gallon

regards
Will

Hello, Will

And CAD$1.00 is worth AU$1.08 today, according to www.xe.com so, it's even worse than you portrayed, or did I do the math backwards?

In other words, your AU$1.29 is CAD$1.20 (all numbers approx.). Yes, as I write that I realize that when I posted the number I did before, our gas was at a dollar a litre.

Yikes! Hope you avoid them big thirsty V8s!!

The Canadian dollar was at 98.6¢ US yesterday which with with exchange rates will generally come out around par. Since we have to drive through Canada to get to Alaska, we are looking forward to high gas prices in a couple of months. In '02, the Canadian dollar was worth around 65¢ US and though it wasn't free, it sure felt good. Mostly lodging and food were cheap and gas was more than US, but not painfully so. Gas in Alaska is also expensive, especially in remote areas.

I have read of predictions of $3 gas in the US during driving season and that it doesn't conform to crude prices. It's speculation. Wholesale gas was $2.30 yesterday.

Depends on what side of the tracks you were on in '02... I don't remember it feeling quite so good.

Though for all our grumbling, it seems that we're getting a steal if we compare our pricing with Europe and Australia... I guess that's why everyone was driving a scooter when I was in Rome!

It felt good for all the Canadian manufacturers that export. I don't remember 65 cents, but I do remember a 72-cent dollar. I worked for almost 20 years for a CD manufacturer and 88% of our volume went to the US, The low Canadian dollar made us super competitive, today's dollar, along with MP3s and the dearth of good music has almost bankrupted them.

Yes, and that's nothing new, it seems. My memory of that relationship became clear when I toured Britain in a Fiat 500 in 1970. I was flabbergasted at what they paid back then, and it hasn't changed since.

The days of cheap oil are now quickly drawing to a close, though. We won't run out, it will just become harder and harder for many people to afford it.
