Wolverine, Europe exports gasoline to the US, but not diesel. Because there are a lot of diesel cars there, they don't have excess to export. As even more Europeans buy diesel cars and as it becomes more common to buy a diesel car in the US, guess what—diesel costs even more.
Gene
In addition to these reasons, the demand in developing economies like China and India, the war in Iraq has added to the demand. Supposedly, the US government has also added a tax to diesel to help pay for the war...these and many other "reasons" have been given for the extra cost for high diesel cost.
If American consumers ever latch onto diesel autos in this country, look out for even higher priced diesel.

I can't find anything on this, Tom. Could you help me out on where the
info is? Thanks!
Gas in this area holding at about $1.34.
I forgot where I read it now. It was some time this past summer when everyone was complaining about the difference in diesel vs. gasoline. It may have been on the www.oil-price.net, but I'm not sure. I'll try to find it again.

I drove one from Colorado to Spokane once in about 1979. It was a fun car to drive, though pretty much the same as the '62 544 I bought way back then. In the '60's, I wanted a Saab Sonnet, but couldn't afford it.
Ok, back to gas prices. I haven't gone anywhere in days, so I don't have a clue.
Hi, today at the local Shell Station we were able to fill up my wife's BMW X3 for $30.00, it brought back some old memories.
Regular..................$1.93
Mid-Grade..............$2.03
Premium.................$2.13*
Diesel....................$2.69
Looks like Diesel is stuck on the high side again.
Looking at these fuel prices sure confirms I would not want to pay for the premium grade of fuel required in many foreign cars...
with a diesel you at least get the advantages of increased mpg to offset the current higher cost of diesel fuel whether in a car or truck. (Of course, when talking TV's, there is nothing better for pulling.) Can't say that for cars that run on high test...just the opposite, they most often return the worst fuel economy...and high test will never cost less than other grades.
I wonder why some Folks don't stop to consider the added cost of premium fuel when purchasing some of these cars...rather fuelish (pun intended). So many of these small foreign cars require high test, don't get very good mpg, and can barely seat 4!
@MW, @EXUS, &CCURA, to (not) name a few...AFAIK, they all require hight test...

If I'm not mistaken you can add the US version of the latest hottie,
the Smartie. How smart is that?
Hi, today we have two grades of fuel under $2.00 at the local Shell Station.
Regular.................$1.89
Mid-Grade.............$1.99
Premium................$2.09*
Diesel...................$2.69
Note: We chose our vehicles for what we wanted and the grade of fuel required was never a consideration. At $0.20 per gallon more, I'm not going broke, nor would I chose an undesireable vehicle just to save 20 cents per gallon. If the premium price of Premium fuel was that bad, I wouldn't have bought an Airstream travel trailer.

'Ya sound like me Bob, it just don't make no sense to offer us an "economy" car that you have to use 97 in. I drove one that came into the shop, looking for something to trade it in on. Seems you can't do anything in it but drive around looking very, very small.
Costco in our area was $1.76 yesterday when I filled up. Some of the the local stations range from $1.79 to $1.89 and are changing from one to two times a day. Sometimes higher and other times lower. It seems we are having somewhat of a price war between 2 or 3 stations. Seems like the good old days. Most of the people I work with believe that it will take off like the space shuttle by summertime.
??? Does this mean you are towing with a BMW X3?
I didn't think you could tow a trailer your size with such a vehicle?
Hi, BillTex. If I lived in Canada I could tow my trailer with the BMW X-3. Heck no; I wouldn't tow anything with my wife's BMW. This car was just mentioned because we were talking about lower gas prices and I just filled that car up that day. And I stated that all my vehicles require Premium fuel as listed:
2000 Lincoln Navigator..............Tow Vehicle..................Premium fuel
2005 BMW X-3.........................wife's car.....................Premium fuel
