Here's a shocker for you...ok, the gas station wasn't open yet and this was their way of keeping people from coming in...quite effective.

$3.09 in Grand Junction and Delta, Colorado, yesterday.

Mexray—government is often more efficient and that has been proven more than once. If for no other reason, there are no profits, so costs are lower. If California wants to raid highway funds, obviously it can. That is the product of a system where taxes are cut, population increases and services are demanded with no way to pay for them. Without highways built and maintained by the government, we would have lots of toll roads, not necessarily well maintained either. Tolls are much higher for towed vehicles. Think what it would cost to travel with a toll based interstate system. An advanced economy needs advanced communication—highways, rail, shipping, air, telephone, broadband, broadcast. Private enterprise does not invest much in infrastructure. Someone has to do it or we slip behind the developing world. There are toll roads around Denver that few people use because of very high tolls—and are supported in part by license plate surcharges. Without the surcharge, the toll road would go bust. It is not actually an entirely private enterprise, but it illustrates that toll roads do not solve problems. Gas taxes do not usually keep up with inflation and that means they decrease over time. In Colorado they are not plowing many rural highways after 7 pm and they plow again the next morning. It's not a good idea to go out in the evening. Here it is very hard to raise taxes and gradually our infrastructure is declining, the state university and college system gets very little money from the state, local education is suffering, and some agencies are operating at minimums. Rankings in education are slipping here and eventually we will be like some southern states. Industries wishing to open factories or other business in a state look at infrastructure: transportation, internet availability and good state and local education—if those things are suffering, they look elsewhere. Low tax states do not attract as much business.

But can't you drive all the way across Denmark for $20? I don't want to think what it would cost to drive across the US at $8.36/gal.

Gas Price

Southern Delaware

Gas - 3.19
Diesel- 3.69

That was yesterday, probably more today. State of Maryland is going to raise their gas tax again, but the money always goes for every thing but roads.

No need to change the sign, just wait a few weeks until they open, it will be correct then.
