It has to do with the state's fuel tax. Some states have high taxes, some have low. Our state seems to have a sliding tax rate that gets higher as the per gallon price goes up. From what I have been told, the price of a gallon of gasoline pretty much cost the same all over the country before taxes. With nominal transportation cost amortized per gallon, the only real variable is the taxes.

I saw diesel for $2.299 today in Fayetteville, GA so it seems to be coming down all over.

Went down to $1.83 in St. Louis today. Diesal is about $2.12. Prices from a new Road Ranger truck stop close to me that tries to undercut QT by a penny a gallon. It's interesting watching these two stations spar. Once QT finds out they drop to match Road Ranger and Road Ranger then drops another penny. This has been going on for over a month now.....all to my delight.

Well....

Was priced at $1.879 in Davenport, IA yesterday and $1.979 in Rock Island, IL yesterday. I'll check it later today as Barrel price changed yesterday and it always jumps up within a day or two here in the Quad Cities. I hate it but that always happens when we get the colder weather settling in! Ed

I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers the good ole days when this used to be a regular occurance...they called them "Gas Wars". Never thought I'd see or hear of one again. Glad to see someone benefiting from one even if I can't.

Congratulations Jack.

Diesel just dropped a nickel today, in time for our fill up! $2.25 Can't believe I'm celebrating such a high number. I need to forget what "used to be" and just live in the present. ~G

Well we jumped up last night. We were $1.83, now $2.07. I heard oil jumped $2 a barrel. We will see how it goes.

Diesel 2.71 today. Todays paper says it will not drop much since we are in a choke point with the system. What ever the hell that means. As I look across the horizon, admittedly there are no smoke stacks or pipelines indicating oil or a refinery.

Hi, It took me awhile to figuer that out too. They truck our fuel/oil to Florida and we get [Florida] Orange juice in return. Because, you know, we don't have oranges in California.

From what I have been told, Florida oranges are used primarily for orange juice and California oranges are used for eating. I don't know why unless the Florida ones are juicer because of the extra rain the usually get and the texture of the California ones are easier to eat (meatier). Like I said, I don't know if that's not the reason.
