Pure Michigan

Perfect Summer weather. No AC or furnace required.

The Great Lakes. (all the lakes) The beaches. "No salt, no sharks no problems."

"Up North". Wine country, vista views to the next county, etc.

The UP. Really up north. Natural & beautiful.

Mackinaw Bridge (mighty Mac) How to get to the UP.

Cultural activities. ie: Art Prize in Grand Rapids.

Local farms & orchards.

Sleeping Bear Dune area, "The most beautiful place in America".

Cheap/reasonable camping.

These are just a few that come to mind.

We have the St. Louis Zoo which is FREE and one of the best zoo's in the nation, we have the City Museum which is quirky and most interesting, the Art Museum, the History Museum, Anheiser Busch Brewery with fun tours, Grant's Farm which is owned by AB, not too far in the Hermann, MO area are great wineries, the Katy Bike Trail that winds through the entire state, Old Town St. Charles with casinos, shopping and tons of great food and, of course, our St. Louis Cardinals - need I say more? We are truly a gem in the mid-west. Oh, and don't forget the Arch!

Kansas - I think most people plan a trip THROUGH Kansas. Due to our flat and straight roads it's a great opportunity to see some double digit MPG's from your towing rig!
Honestly though, I'm sure there is something worth seeing/doing here but after 15 years raising my boys here, I'm ready for a locale with a little more ELEVATION!

The Mississippi Delta extends from Memphis to Vicksburg.
This area is "the birthplace of America's music". Blues, Rock 'n' Roll, and casinos...
The area extends from Elvis' Graceland to Vicksburg civil war park.

Humm. I guess I should know for our area (AF, Eagle Nest, Red River, Taos, etc.), but always wind up thinking about it.
  • Cool, dry weather in the summertime; snow in the winter
  • Skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, horse/Llama riding tours, mountain biking, mountain climbing, river rafting, golf, hunting, wildlife viewing, trout/salmon fishing
  • Native America: Taos Pueblo, Utes, some Comanches
  • Euro-American history: Hispanic invasions/conflicts, US invasions/conflicts
  • Artists and galleries
I guess that kind of sums it up.

Lynn

I knew that area is called the Mississippi Delta, but living where I do, to me the Mississippi Delta was always from Venice, Lousiana to the Gulf of Mexico. Turns out that I've been mistaken about that for the last 33 years.

I just looked it up today out of curiosity after you posted, and discovered my error. The Mississippi Delta is in between the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers, exactly as you say. The Mississippi River Delta, with that extra word in there, is the mouth of the river. All these years, and no one ever corrected me when I got it wrong…

New Orleans is in a "delta"- a region, generally triangular in shape, where the mouth of a river empties into a larger body of water-
Our "delta" is a region of flat fertile farmland most likely due to Ole Man River changing his course over thousands of years...possibly shaped like a triangle- a very long stretched out triangle- or a very long diamond-
The term "the delta" is also sometimes used to designate our generally impoverished economic region with no industry or income base.
You were not wrong. There are basically 2 regions that could go by the name of the "Mississippi Delta"- one named for the river, the other named for the state- There may be "deltas" in other states along the Mississippi river, as well.
