Whada Drag

We left Ft Wilderness Thursday morning and flipped a coin - Heads = East, Tails = West...

Heads.

We headed east past Daytona and decided to stop in St Augustine. After talking to a fellow 'streamer at a rest stop we pointed to Anastasia State park only to find them full (unless we had a tent). The Park Rangers pointed us toward A1A and we ended up at a KOA that I really can't recommend. $60 per night and we had to fuss for a pull thru after we didn't fit easily into the sand back in...they waived the upgrade fee .

We did have time to tour some of the town before heading west on Friday morning. A call to Pensacola's Ft Pickens and we were informed the road was buried under sand and closed due to the little November tropical storm we just had. We then found a private campground just off of exit 7 and stayed beneath some huge Live Oaks for the night.

Headed home today and found the road construction at our street entrance had made some progress, or re-gress should be a better description. We have been dealing with mud for a few months but now they have recontoured the entrance and WE DON'T FIT! 1.5 hours of diggin and placing ramps (while the sheriff and county road supervisior watched) and we are finally in the driveway.

We also found out that they were going to pave the entrance today but the weather stopped them. Now we get to deal with getting a hold put on the construction untill it's re-contoured to allow access.

None of this put a damper on a great week, 4 days in Ft Wilderness, St Augustine and 14mpg!

hoho'!

yeah, the koa in st augustine is NOT cool and crazy priced.

anastasia state park otoh is nice, 1/2 that price and often FULL.

tough to get a 1 or 2 night UNbooked stay without luck.

but IF you show up near 4-5 pm as the ranger station closes,

occasionally a cancellation is found.

and IF the park is full they can give out the handicap slots then too.

they always seem to have UNbooked folks lined up when the office opens hoping to strike gold...

LOTs of pirates nearby!

cheers

A new hitch...hummm...I think that would solve my 'tail heavy' condition...
Stick 150lbs on the A frame and I bet the tail would rasie right up, no more road grading...

Luckly the road had just been graded and was very soft. The RR jack burried into the road as I sat there and the trailer slowly sank a few inches. By removing the WD bars, digging out the bumper and backing onto some planks we managed to unground the ship without any damage.

It took some 'discussing' with the sheriff's office to get them to cancel the tow-truck call.

St. Augustine

We stayed a couple of nights earlier this year at a campground on 207, St. John's Marketplace and RV Park. Hosts a lot of folks for the flea market they have nearby, nothing fancy but quite cheap as I recall due to Passport America. It was a decent enough spot to use as a base to visit St. Augustine from for a few days, which we did.
