West Texas Road Conditions ?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with conditions of some roads in Texas --
I am travelling west to New Mexico, and from Dallas to Amarillo, Google Maps puts me on US 287 -- anyone know what that road is like? Bumpy, rough etc?

I will be towing a vintage trailer that I haven't towed that much and want as smooth as a ride as possible. Normally I would take I 20 from Dallas to Abilene, and cut north on US 84 to Clovis, but I know that route to be pretty rough in many places, especially when pulling a trailer...

If anyone has any experience, I'd be very appreciative - Thanks

We travel 287 from Ft. Worth to Amarillo frequently. It is excellent road. Since its not interstate, you get the pleasure of slowing down through several small towns, but it is 4 lane divided all the way and in great condition. If you are heading northwest across NM, be aware that US 87 between Clayton and Raton is undergoing road work and is moderately rough in places.

The part of 287 that I have done is pretty good road. For that matter, most of the TX roads in that area are in good shape.
