In our home park there's about 550 lots. They're all full at one point or another. We're the only Airstream in the whole park.

We came to another park 2 hours away to spend a long weekend. It's a smaller park, right on the east coast of Florida. And again, were the only Airstream in the whole park.

Where's everyone hiding?

Just back from 6 days in and around Glacier NP in Montana-- maybe there are more out here! We stayed in a small RV park near West Yellowstone (Glacier Campground,) and at one point the managers thoughtfully lined up 3 of us in a row.

We also saw several RV parks that were packed with Class A motorhomes and the occasional monster 5th wheel with slide-outs. We avoid such places where possible, and look for the smaller more rustic-looking places.

But don't worry. Even when surrounded by those big fellahs, You're the one with good taste.

We have had a similar (though limited) experience. We've been to a few RV parks in the past year and we have been the only aluminium trailer there (and also the only one using an SUV tow vehicle). In the parks we've been to, roughly 1/3 of the RVs were motor homes, 1/3 were 5th wheels, and 1/3 were SOB trailers. Also, almost all the tow vehicles were trucks (maybe I saw one Suburban TV?), mostly HD trucks. I also have not seen anyone using a PPP hitch so far. My guess is that aluminum trailers and PPP hitches makes up less than 1% of the market. Alternate tow vehicles, probably less than 0.01%.

I rarely see another Airstream in the parks I go to.

On our Colorado trip, there was 1 AS at the park in Durango and there were 2 that stopped overnight while we were in Ouray. I think all the Class A's and 5th wheels are so big it is easy to miss an AS.

August in Florida, they're probably still searching for cooler weather up north. More AS full timers may gravitate to Arizona to stay away from the salt air in FL. Just a theory.
I've been seeing AS's like crazy all summer. Unfortunately mine is mid full monte so I'm using a SOB for the summer. Sacrilege i know!.

My wife and I have a little game where we compete with each other to be the first to spot an Airstream while on the road. After three years and perhaps 10,000 miles and 40 trips we have seen a combined total of 68. Airstreams definitely aren't rare but they are relatively uncommon. It would be interesting to know what percentage of RV's on the road are Aistreams. Anyone?

I did a Google search and per RV Industry Association (RVIA) 356,735 RVs were shipped in 2014 (http://www.rvia.org/?ESID=indicators).

Airstream makes 50 trailers per week (?), hence around 2,600 per year.

2,600/356,735 = 0.7%

If we include Airstream Interstates, this % would go up.

Another interesting trend per RVIA is the constant increase in RV shipments since 2009, though they still lag the pre-recession figures.

:-) We play the same game although I notice my wife likes to change the rules a bit based on how they fit her winning. Airstream with matching tow vehicle is double points.

I win about 70% of the time since I'm the one doing the driving and she's known to nap a lot on road trips.

At Sept. NASCAR race at Joliet we stay across from main gate. We are in 6th yr. at this camp ground never a AS in this campground, every thing from pop ups to large diesel pushers, no AS.

When at St Mary campground in Glacier a couple of weeks ago a party of 4 or 5 Airstreams from Washington were in our loop. Got to talk to one of them who planned to bike up to Logan Pass the next morning we were leaving. There were a couple in the same loop the previous day too and one up on Loop C.

At Many Glacier we were the only Airstream. More tents than RVs there.

I am not quite sure where this thread is going but my wife and I are very proud to be the minority on the road and in the parks. We certainly appreciate the positive comments we get from other campees. We have owned fifth wheels and other pull trailers and our 2003 Classic 30 surpasses all others we have owned. We feel blessed to have her.

We always see more AS-ers when we're NOT towing...

During our 2,100 mile trip from Texas to California and back this past summer, we saw two in other parks, and six on the highways. If Airstreams really are less than1% of travel trailers, that'd seem about right! 😄

I drive from Idaho to Newberry, FL twice per year (roundtrips)....half of the time pulling my little Daisy behind. Whether on I-80, I-70, I-75, or state highways I am always amazed how very few ASs I see. So in answer to you question, I would guess no more than 5-8% of the camping trailers are ASs (may not be the best acronym)....if that many. Safe travels. jon
