Definitely recognize the B47. My dad was crew chief for one at Chenault AFB before transitioning to B52s at Loring AFB.

But not until 1983. KC 135's and KC 10's. And I didn't have to work as hard as you.

On the Road Again.....Trains

Proceeding past Mt. Slesse, the FaN exited at Hope, a.k.a. Gateway to Holidayland. Destination: The Othello Tunnels.

The Othello Tunnels are part of the historic Kettle Valley Railroad, linking the coastal areas to the rich mineral resources of B.C.'s interior.

Constructed in 1914, the tunnels were considered an engineering marvel. The tunnels were blasted right into the steep granite cliffs rising above the Coquihalla River. The chief designer, Andrew McCulloch, was a fervent fan of Shakespeare. Hence, the name "Othello." The stations along the KV line are also named after key Shakespearian characters.

The Othello Tunnels are easily accessible with a trailer. (Watch for signage entering Hope). The Othello parking lot is designed for cars, buses, and RVs. RVs are allowed to park in the bus area. The day I was there, these buses were filled with Korean students. People come from all over the world to experience the tunnels......

From the parking lot, it is about a 1 mile walk before you reach the first tunnel. There is interesting signage along the way.......

Looking up, the granite still bears the scars from the original drill holes.....

The first tunnel is relatively short.....

The next tunnels are longer and very dark. If you held your hand four inches from your face, you would not be able to see it. You can hear water dripping from the fissures in the rocks. Some of it will drip onto your head. You smell the dampness. It is eerie. Primordial. You may regret not bringing a flaming torch of oily rags to fight-off the Morlocks. EEEEEEEEEEEK.........

Sorry, active imagination here. You also do not have to be worried about groping perverts. He (or she) can't see a da*n thing either!

Speaking of which....don't you just love this soap?

http://gizmodo.com/277599/the-return...-other-reasons

Okay. Sorry for the diversion.

Emerging from the darkness, you will be dazzled by deep, jade-green pools and roaring water....

This is the same water which is tapped by Nestle......

....and the place where that Sylvester guy made a movie....

"Hey. If you're looking for trouble, you've come to the right place buddy...."

Over and out....for now.

Oh no! Looks like my last little travel/photo essay on Trains - The Othello Tunnels has disappeared. I had some problems posting first time - glitches.

I will try to repost sometime later. Kinda lost heart (for the moment).

jimmini, you worked on some wonderful airplanes!

Gene, there was a glitch. Post is now visible.

Yes, that's me. Had to stop and do the tacky tourist thing. Rambo - First Blood was filmed in and around Hope. The photo board is by the Hope Tourist Centre, which is worth a visit. Lots of free info. and there's a small museum there too. Lots of room to park a rig. The Chevron gas station (right beside it) is a good place to grab a coffee/drink and a giant double-chocolate cookie or sandwich from their Bread Garden cooler. The turkey on cranberry-nut bread is my favourite!

Now I have a face to go with the feet. After reading posts from people who are very active on the Forum, I wonder what they look like.

Now that's a good idea for a forum topic, no? Protagonist should go first :-)

As an aside...How often does one hear, now I have a face to go with the feet? :-)

Reminds me of a joke a dear friend (insurance underwriter) tells at cocktail parties...

How can you tell when an actuary is an extrovert?

She's staring at YOUR shoes when she's talking to you :-)

In my avatar, I'm the one who suggested Marilyn wear a potato sack.

Yes. The poster came from the Idaho potato museum. I'm sure Marilyn often visited the potato fields of Idaho to stock up on local tubers.

I also have a photo of her in gown as pictured behind the Henry Miller house in Big Sur. It is strange too.

It is too bad the avatars don't expand when you put the cursor over them—the Forum could do that; Amazon does it. I often wonder what is in someone's avatar, but it is too small to see clearly.
