FYI "dark" maple syrup is burnt. The extra strong flavour is burnt sugar not maple.

Maple syrup
Yup, the light is considered the higher quality by some but I like the extra strong flavor of the "burnt" darker variety....actually the Amber is my favorite and is not necessarily burnt simply produced later in the season.
The grading of maple syrup is a bit confusing and has recently undergone revision by the US and Canada.
Oh, gosh, just realized my son and I rode motorcycles thorough Kitchener back in about 2008, one of our several trips to Canada.

We stopped by Mississippi Mills last year. Drove by the 5 Arch stone bridge right up the road. We were enroute from Sault Ste. Marie to Ottowa. Great trip. If I knew about their maple syrup production I would have stopped in. Oh well, next trip

You were 1 mile from our family farm if you were at the Pakenham stone bridge. Only 5 span stone bridge in North America. (Mississippi Mills). We used to swim just below the bridge and, in the good old days, they used to have regatta boat races in the river just below the bridge. Lanark County is the Maple Syrup Capital of Canada.

Be Careful What you Wish For.....
There is a current thread about campfires - many think they should be banned at campgrounds/RV parks. (Would have posted in that thread, but I can't find it).
Here's some embers for thought: B.C. is in the midst of one of the hottest/driest spells on record. There is a total campfire ban. One of my favourite RV parks (Sunshine Valley) is 75% empty because of that. The nightly campfire is obviously a big part of the Sunshine Valley customer experience. Sunshine Valley is a relatively new park that cost millions to build. The RV park season here is relatively short. They have to be booked at capacity during the summer to justify the investment.
The way I see it, no campfires = no RV parks (or public campgrounds). It would be a bad investment, at least here in B.C. We all would suffer.
I am not saying campfire enthusiasts should go full throttle with a burn, baby burn, mentality either. Just exercise some campfire consideration and common sense.
Sunshine Valley during happier times......

Having an RV means I don't need a fire to cook and to boil water for cleaning.
Always figured turnaround was fair play if I idled my turbodiesel for hours upwind of one of the campfire aficionados.

Campfire
While I enjoy a good campfire, this is never going to be one I make.....but, to explain, I am usually not sitting outside. Most of my time is on the computer, editing photos, with my windows wide open if possible, enjoying at least vicariously someone else's campfire.
My experience as an observer is that about 90+% of the folks understand how to do a campfire, fully, that is fully extinguishing it when finished. The problem comes from the less than 10 % who may allow an errant spark or ember to get away from the site, and in an environment of dry parched timber, the results can be disastrous. Thus, the rule of zero risk must be enforced for the protection of all.
Unfortunately there is no real substitute for the wonderful atmosphere around an open fire... maybe someone will invent a way to do this safely...

I am not pro or anti campfire. Like MsMoto said, hopefully we can find some kind of middle ground that will keep everyone happy.

My guess, based upon my behaviors over 27 years ago, is that the campfire issue is at the highest risk when alcohol is being consumed. Maybe we need some guidelines to avoid "BUI" ..... burning while intoxicated.
This is much funnier in North Carolina where we hand out "DUI" driving while intoxicated. So please excuse me while I spend a moment LMAO

Hi, we never have camp fires and don't really care for them. But if it's really cold out, one fire for one large group, or kids burning marshmallows, I guess it's OK. But why do you have to smoke out the whole camp ground when it's 100 degrees out in a drought area just to burn wood?????? Doorgunner made a huge propane fire pit for Rallies and I like that one. And it's always cold when in use.

I have never lit a fire while Airstreaming either because I figure I have spewed enough into the air to get there in the daytime, and do not want to add to it. However, when walking the dog at night and it's cold, I have lingered by someone else's campfire. (They don't mind). Maybe that's a good solution; one group fire instead of dozens.
The propane versions are a good alternative too.

On the Road.....LA
Just received an email from the flying friend who has a rare 18-hour layover in LA. He and the captain rented a car and really enjoyed their jaunt. He said they saw some really "cool" things and the people were super friendly.
I experienced same when there in February. Really, really nice people. Very friendly and helpful when lost.
LA tends to get a bad rap, but I'd love to go back someday. Maybe even Airstream it.

I didn't realize that the river below the bridge was big enough to have any rowing events there. My daughter is a rower ( non-competitive these days) and has rowed a few times in St. Catharines, Ont. We stopped there for a driving break. There was plenty of room to pull our AS in and park. We enjoyed our drive through the area and our days visiting Ottawa. A beautiful piece of bridge construction and a nice little park.

The sign says:" Passengers are requested not to throw any rocks in gorge as fishermen may be below."
This is from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR in Colorado, New Mexico.....
Must be why I do not fish there, huh?

I agree no campfires, no music, no loud noises, no drinking, no barking dogs, no smores, no grilling or BBQing, no making bacon, eggs or coffee in the morning as the delicious smell wakes be up.
Yup I am being facetious. Camping is suppose to be fun not laden with a bunch of restrictions to take tha enjoyment away.
