Wow! Nice bench. Beautiful location. Even comes with a paper and a trash bin. My very first night in Banff was spent on a similar bench. My friends, who were better at hitch hiking, got there before me and managed to get the much preferred table tops in the picnic shelter. Way better. Dryer. That was 50 years ago. Learned to work hard from that experience. Jim

Dusty's much improved bench is located near a popular Candy store while mine was located at the end of the same street just before the bridge leading to the Banff Springs Hotel, in a quiet daytime only picnic park. At least it was quiet 50 years ago. Today, the park is much improved, some would say, has impressive facilities and is patrolled by Park Wardens on a regular basis in order to discourage young gentlemen like my former self from becoming a park guest who occupies a bench for the night. Favorite breakfasts: my home made granola with fruit (Barb makes muesli for herself; pretty much the same as my granola), or eggs and potatoes (fried, scrambled or omelette), or oatmeal with nuts and blueberries. And for liquid refreshment and jump start, 100 octane Market Spice tea. Tea so good it needs no cream, lemon or anything else added. And news on the tube and a real newspaper to compliment breakfast (or if out of town, newspapers on the iPad). We may linger over breakfast and then it is almost time for lunch. Yes, food is important and we make much of it from scratch and try to stick to healthy things plus exercise regularly so we don't become supersized.
Now I'm hungry. Luckily it is lunch time.

I thought I was being called. After admiring your photos and seeing what was possible, I unleashed my Nikon D40x for some active work and found that I new nothing about it. (The camera, that is. I know all about working) I enrolled in an 8 week course taught at the local library by a local photographer and now find that I can take the thing off auto and produce stunningly out of focus photos with poor lighting. At the final class he managed to fix one of my photos with "photo shop" and then announced that his next 8 week course was on how to use photo shop. So it looks like next winter I will be back at the library. Jim

Jim, put the camera back on auto and then you can fix the photos on the computer—well, I can fix them on iPhoto on my computer. I can't be bothered with all the settings on my camera. It knows how to take good photos on its own.
Then, … take a picture of a flower and have breakfast.

Good timing! Was at the hangar today and pulled out the camera. I call this one Airstreams and Airplanes: the incredible likeness of being!
Anyone care to guess what kind of aircraft this is?

Was in the Air Explorers (Boy Scouts) in the 60's. One of my favorite old airplanes we got to tour. This is a more modern one with the full aluminum tail feathers.....some were fabric covered, believe it or not.

I know the elevators on C-47s were fabric covered! One ANG C-47 pilot of my acquaintance accidentally dragged the tail through a tangled mess of barbed wire just off a taxiway and shredded the fabric on one elevator.
To further complicate things, this was a sort of unscheduled stop to see a girl friend (to hear him tell it, he had one of in every airport) and he wasn't eager to have to call in about it.
In those days they always carried plenty of propeller tape--like duct tape, only green--so after getting the tail untangled from the barbed wire he bandaged up the elevator with lots of propeller tape and took off for home base, arriving uneventfully.

Yep. Fabric and dope on all the control surfaces, including rudder. And, these days it's "hundred-mile-an-hour tape" - but it holds at twice that and more!

I've seen that tape used to patch holes in F-4J Phantom aircraft that resulted from enemy fire.
It stays on at really high speeds....and is a real bear to remove after it has been on for a while. Beats the heck out of duct tape.
