Welcome to the Breakfast Show.......
Gosh, this sounds interesting.... And all the way from BC, CA, huh? I am a Williams Lake fan in spite of having never been there....LOL. Saw the fireworks about 15 or 20 years ago in Vancouver if that gets me in......
And as far as Mick, never seen him..... But I might just lurk for awhile and meet some of you in Farmington......

Discovered at a trade show.....I'm really thinking Shark Tank.
How exciting would that kind of exposure and financial backing be!
Whatever it is, must be a very special product you have put together, FaN.
Glad you have a good and trusted friend to be close, advise and assist. That will make all the difference.
Staying tuned....
Maggie

Hey FaN,
And to think that I was under the impression that the inspiration for The Breakfast Show came from the inestimable Hunter Thompson.
Yours in LaLa Land,

JD, oh Gonzo! I forgot. Thanks for the reminder.
Post #1 of The Breakfast Show is an ode to HST, paraphrased.

Not living all that far from where Dr. Duke's ashes were blasted into space, I have often wondered if some have fallen on me. If so, would it have enlightened (or endarkened) me?
I once wrote a review of a speech he gave and it appeared in the bibliography of a book about him. As much as I liked his writing, his talking skills were not so good. Anyway, that's as close as I ever got to him except for the possibility of the ashes.
A lot of people want their ashes scattered on Colorado mountain tops or high passes. I wonder how much I have breathed in over the years? How many have fallen into drinking water reservoirs? I was at one of these ash scatterings on Loveland Pass many years ago. A wind gust came up and blew them back at us.
This is not what you are supposed to be thinking on Thanksgiving (US version, Canadian one was last month), but just mention the good doctor, I go into fear and loathing thoughts (watch out for the giant lizards in the bar!).
And remember, the white whale started out in LA and ended up in LV. You just never know where you might go next.

Gene, truly enjoyed your reply. I think many of us were enlightened (or endarkened) by it. The latter is not a critique. Enlightenment comes when a writer dares to cast those antithetical fiingerlings into the darkness.
An analogy can be found in HST's discharge from the USAF: " In summary, this airman, although talented, will not be guided by policy."
How apropos that his ashes were blasted into space - to the strains of Spirit in the Sky.....

No music, just a time for contemplation of our blessings.
FYI, the silo is about 1.3 miles from the camera

Well, not literally blasted into space, but the attempt was made. I think Johnny Depp may have been in charge of the event. But Thompson was somewhat in outer space all the time. I don't recall seeing any stories about where the capsule ended up.

Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Now, something about Williams Lake. This books sums it up perfectly:
The night Mark Leiren-Young drove into Williams Lake, British Columbia, in 1985 to work as a reporter for the venerable Williams Lake Tribune, he arrived on the scene of an armed robbery. And that was before things got weird. For a 22-year-old from Vancouver, a stint in the legendary Cariboo town was a trip to another world and another era. From the explosive opening, where Mark finds himself in a courtroom just a few feet away from a defendant with a bomb strapped to his chest, to the case of a plane that crashed without its pilot on board, Never Shoot a Stampede Queen is an unforgettable comic memoir of a city boy learning about—and learning to love—life in a cowboy town.

My reference to Williams Lake is documentary called "Honor For All" from the 1970's.
As to interesting reading....actually while on the road towing I listen to audio books and Lee Child is my favorite with the Jack Reacher stories. I must have ten or more and they are as good the second or third time as the first.....for the geriatric set who have CRS.....😉

As a (long ago) city boy who just left a cowboy town, I can understand the culture bending experiences of Mark Leiren-Young. I have a friend from another big city who landed a reporter's job in yet another rural town in Colorado and he was probably little older than 22; I'm not sure he has ever recovered even 30 years later.

Msmoto, do you mean "The Honour of All," which is about the scourge of alcoholism amongst the Cariboo First Nations?
While we're on the topic of vintage small-town documentaries, this one profiles Port Alberni, a Vancouver Island mill town. The drive to Port Alberni is spectacular and highly recommended as it takes you through Cathedral Grove, one of the oldest stands of virgin timber.
Anyway, one of my relatives lived in Port Alberni and always drove the fanciest car. After stumbling across this documentary, I now know why!
Cathedral Grove....

Yup, it is a documentary done using the real individuals to play their own parts. Phenomenal and profoundly moving.

Drum brakes, ghetto television, and real cake for me. That's what I learned on the forums today. And I have to change the way I fly. Jim

Jim, pull a chair up to Papa Buscaglia's table. (0:ll - 2:00)
(I love this lecture and try to watch it at least once a year. All six parts are on You Tube.)

Thank you for that FaN. I think I will continue to bumble along. Pick up a few new things, continue with some of the old stuff. Use my hands a little more. Try a little harder at sharing. That's what I learned on the forums today. Sort of like Dr. Buscaglia's table. Jim

Jim, I was not criticizing you. Your chair is worthy of Papa Buscaglia's table. Many people think they know everything; a thirst for knowledge is unconscionable to them.
I was also thinking how obsolete "looking something up in the encyclopedia" has become since the internet.
