Woke up super early this am thinking of the valiant effort of team USA against Belgium- oh what might have been!

Was thrilled to see the trailer for The Way and to listen to the interview with Martin Sheen.

It surely resonated with me when he said "we have to step out of our comfort zones".

I will be out of my comfort zone and likely out of my mind!

Another One....

Love how the Breakfast Show has morphed into The Breakfast of Champions. However, it isn't about winning. It goes beyond that. It's about digging deep - to never give up.

Louis Zamperini passed yesterday. If you are not familiar with Louis' story, you can read about it in Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand.

The film version is now in post-production.....

And.....the documentary.....

Laura Hillenbrand - what a writer. Both her books, Seabiscuit: An American Legend, and Unbroken, were best-sellers and had Hollywood clammering for the screen-rights.

Thank you FaN for posting the Unbroken movie trailer and the documentary about Louis Zamparini. What an inspirational story! Seeing him running the Olympic torch, smiling all the while, wow!
I will surely remember " if I take it I can make it" as I walk the Camino. Which will be a picnic compared to what he endured.
Going to get the book this weekend.

The Breakfast show has been WAY too quiet! Somebody has got to be having an adventure out there!

So I asked friends and family to send me their favorite quotes/ scriptures/jokes for me to put in the journal that I am bringing. Two from my baby sista and future airstream owner:

" You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is."
Ellen Degeneres

"People say Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends. Well at my age if I want to connect with ols friends I need a Ouija board"
-Betty White

Annie, I have been busy making breakfast? Well, not quite, but close. I am in the midst of getting my food business off the ground. The FaN's licence has not even been renewed; it could be parked until ???

I love to collect quotes. When I was a kid, my parents gave me Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.

A few favourites....(some of them are on the dark side).....

O plunge your hands in water,
Plunge them up to the wrist;
Stare, stare in the basin,
And wonder what you've missed. Leo Durocher

Doomsday is the eighty day of the week. Stanley Kunitz

Once he drew with one long kiss
my whole soul through my lips. Tennyson

The path of civilization is paved with tin cans. Elbert Hubbard

When two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions, they are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part. George Bernard Shaw

Every time a child says I don't believe in fairies, there is a little fairy somewhere that falls down dead. James Barrie

Hollywood is a great place,
if you're an orange. Fred Allen

I also like George Sheehan's quotes on running - although they could be applied to walking, or any other exercise for that matter:

Out on the roads there is fitness and self-discovery and the persons we were destined to be.

Sweat cleanses from the inside. It comes from places a shower will never reach.

The music of a marathon is a powerful strain, one of those tunes of glory. It asks us to forsake pleasures, to discipline the body, to find courage, to renew faith and to become one's own person, utterly and completely.

Looking forward to walking with you (vicariously)!

All the best,
FaN

Good to see you're still up and running.

Good luck with that food business.

Ummm, what is it you're going to be doing?

Hey FaN,

I thought the most interesting quote was from Leo Durocher, not the quote itself but that it came from Durocher. I lived in Chicago, going to university, while he was manager of the Chicago Cubs and he never struck me as the contemplative sort, to say the least.

And, yeah, what exactly are you up to??

All the best,

John S.

JD, yes. You wouldn't expect such profundity to waft from a locker room.

Maggie/JD, ummmm.....more later. In case it flops, I don't want to look like an idiot -- pardon me -- more of an idiot.

FaN,

As far as I'm concerned, you're idiot proof!

Agree agree agree...our FaN is idiot proof!

Loved all of your quotes. After a few nights of dreams in which I had no money and no shoes I am calm and very excited to begin the camino. Will post the first links tomorrow. Leaving Wednesday.

In the meantime, since for some random reason my link to Garth Brook's Calling Baton Rouge got highjacked check out this Gaelic version...

First posted on July 7th and already a top 10 in Ireland.
And while I happen to have a married name of Saxon as a born Reilley I'm Irish through and through...
