No problem, glad I could help. After all it was just the PLANE truth, nothing but the truth...the plane was there for all to see. I need to stop before this becomes PLANELY insane.

Foraging.....On the Road

What the Kazoo plant is to some parts of the U.S., wild blackberries are to B.C.

I have seen wild blackberries devour an entire barn! They can be very invasive. However, the berries are delicious. We are in the midst of a blackberry bonanza. Foraging for wild blackberries, blueberries, huckleberries, and salmon berries can be an enjoyable and delicious part of being on the road.

Today I found these blackberries growing out of a cedar hedge along the side of the road. I stopped and started picking.....

Within a couple of minutes my bucket was full.....

What to make....what to make? I know there is some stale chocolate cake in the FaN's freezer, some whipping cream in the fridge, a box of Dr. Oetker's chocolate mousse in the pantry, and a bottle of Three Olives cake-flavoured vodka in the cabinet. Perfect fixings for a drunken chocolate-blackberry trifle!

I started to mash the berries, added some sugar, and the Three Olives vodka....

Then it went into the fridge to soak up the sugar and vodka for a few hours.

In the meantime, I took the stale chocolate cake out of the freezer and cut it into cubes, and whipped-up the chocolate mousse.

Just before dinner, dessert is ready to assemble. I layer the cake, vodka-soaked berries, mousse, whipping cream....and repeat.

Oh man!.....was this good. I think the secret is the boozy berries.....that lucious, rich, purple nectar permeating the cubes of chocolate cake.....

Foraging on the road....*hic*.....I think I like it! *hic*

Hi, we did some free Black Berry picking ourselves while camping in Salem, Oregon.

Oh, and we picked some free lemons too, but that was at our house.

We have a rule around here. Only eat blackberries higher than your waist.

I like the idea of a kazoo plant—flowering into kazoos every spring, free for the picking and then serenading everyone at the campground.

The kazoo plant is related to the Bird of Paradise.

Hi!...and Wow! Lemons in the backyard. Unheard of in the Great White North.

The only lemon in my backyard was an aged MGB.

The Grammar Lady, my first stab at it was "Gazoo," but that didn't look quite right, so changed it to Kazoo.

Blame it on an arrested childhood....and both are green.

Memo to self: Take off stone-age thinking cap before posting on ASF.
