There was a new windshield design being tested overseas and they requested the FAA's bird canon to test their work. Windshield shattered every time despite ever increasing thickness of the material. They contacted Langley for help. They respond - thaw the chicken.

She is quite a woman.

I love that the younger generation of royals hosted the Obamas recently...and the sweet pictures of those beautiful children.

Diana is proud.

Maggie, it will seem strange when she finally kicks off. We are so used to the image. Compared to Charlie boy, she is twice the monarch.

However, I think the monarchy costs too much. What a foo-fa-rah when they come to town. Streets are washed, and washed again. Everything gets a coat of paint, regardless of whether or not it needs it.

Like the story of the 95 year old couple filing for divorce, when the judge asked why after all these years, the response was they had to wait for the kids to die. Perhaps the Queen.....

That is funny, switz. I always wondered if Charlie Boy is genuine when he proclaims, "Long live our Queen."

Will finally be able to access the forest and creek alongside the property (thanks to this new road). Thought it would make a great little camping spot. However, that's quite a steep grade. Don't think the truck and Airstream will make it back up. Oh well. I plan on building myself a little log bench beside the creek. Will be a nice place to meditate/read. And when it snows, I can bellyboard down the hill. Wheeeeeeeee......

What a beautiful spot, FaN!

Try to find a way to camp there, even if only overlooking that creek rather than on it.

To pretty to not be a little escape-to-the-woods spot for you

Holy smoke - stay away from Northern Alberta. A wildfire has engulfed Fort McMurray. 90,000 people have been evacuated. 1,600 homes and businesses have been destroyed. This is the biggest North American evacuation since the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.

WestJet was called in to evacuate the elderly, mobility challenged, women about to give birth, and hospital patients. My friend really wanted to go, but had just returned from a trip and was not flight-crew legal. The air tankers were able to keep the fire away from the new airport.

Thankfully, no one was killed or injured, even though people were literally running for their lives.

Fort Mac is also the home of the oil sands. The price at the pump has already risen.

This is a real tragedy, but Albertans are a hardy bunch. They will rebuild.

After seeing that hellfire in Alberta, I am lucky to have this cool, wet, oasis.

Hope you are doing well, Maggie. Finding your oasis too, wherever that may be.

That fire is pretty terrifying.

Those of us who live in corn and soybean country can't fathom living with wildfires, as so many do.

I remember talking with a fellow camper out west somewhere, who asked something about wildfires out here...when I told him we didn't have wildfires in Illinois, he was stunned.

Tho...we do have tornadoes, and sometimes 100 mph, straight-line winds.

Living with the ever-present threat of fire is absolutely unimaginable to me, but I guess all of our mindsets adjust to our individual reality.

Speaking of oasis, FaN....I have dreamed most of my life of having a cabin in the woods, an idyllic spot such as you have, but it doesn't seem that I will have that in this lifetime.

I have a small house I love, tho, where I raised my children, Doug and I lived all our married lives, and which has been mine now for over 30 years.

I consider it a soul-feeding sanctuary of sorts....easy for me to manage, always ready for a new, personalized touch or improvement that nurtures some small corner of me....and memories of our life, and places we visited and loved together, everywhere I look.

It is good...my little house home base welcomes me home, nurtures and supports me, and I have the Interstate I am still able to travel in...that takes me to beloved places I cannot possess.

How fortunate am I.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.

Be well, FaN.
