Weekend @ Palomar Mountain

Took Fiona out to Palomar Mountain on her second little voyage. About 1.5 to 2 hours from San Diego.

Stopped at Camping World for misc stuff, then made the beautiful drive up to Palomar Observatory. Observatory is really cool to see and learn about. Bought a DVD from the gift shop and watched it in the RV at night.

Spent the night at Palomar Mountain State Park, at the Doane Valley Campground. Campground is beautiful. Felt like we were in the Sierras.

Overall, a successful weekend commune with nature!

Did our first fresh water fill up. OK, piece of cake there. Next outing, will need to do our first tank dump. teehee.

Hey welcome to the forum. What airstream do you have? I've spent a lot of time on Palomar over the years. It's still somewhat of a hidden gem especially during the week. I guess the campground is no longer run by the state?

We're locals too.... Maybe we'll run into you sometime...... Happy travels!

Just bought an Interstate!

Pretty sure the campground is still part of the State Park system. It's in Palomar Mountain State Park. And the rangers looked very official State Rangery like.

We were just talking about going to check out Santee Lakes Campground. I've heard it's nice, and if we get a full hook up space, we can take our time doing our first tank dump!! Really looking forward to that.

FYI: There are two other campgrounds on Palomar Mountain - both on the road to the Observatory - run by the USFS. Also a great campground at the bottom of the hill to the east on Lake Henshaw - great if you like fishing!
