We got it!!!

Just drove 2600 miles round trip and picked our used beauty! Couldn't sleep in our new (to us) Airstream on the way home, LP leaks somewhere... Anyone know if the A/C will run off 15 amp? or must it use the full 30 amp? We are back home in South Florida and are resting... 5 days roundtrip is way too much road time... Here we are taking delivery of our 2004 International 28!!! I'll sign back on in a day or two after we have caught up on some sleep with some more photos! Couldn't wait to show her off here!

Better to have 30 amp power to operate the air conditioner. The compressor can be damaged when the amperage is low.

The AC draws about 14-15 amps when running, but draws 16-18 amps at compressor start-up. Your converter (AC to DC) draws several amps also, so your amp draw is about 18 if no other draw is there (like the refigerator).

That being said, I run the AC on my 2002 31 foot ASCL from a 20 amp outlet just 3 feet from the 20 amp breaker using a double prong adapter (plugs simultanously into both recepticles with a 30 amp recepticle for the 30 foot umbilicle from the Airstream); thus due to the short run of about 33 feet my current/volt drop is minimal and my AC runs without any problem.

Congratulations on the new rig. Sounds like quite a trip. As for the AC question, the general consensus is not to run it on 15 amps.

Aluminum-the gift that keeps on givin!

Congratulations and bravo for the 2600 miles. Your smiles are about the same as ours when we got our 1968 Globetrotter. Go slow, read this forum and the more you fix yourself the better you will feel. See you on the road.

Congratulations!! Definately go with 30 amp if possible. It will help protect that investment. We look forward to more pictures!

30 amps for sure. It's not worth the risk of damaging the compressor motor. It's not so much the current (amps) drawn as it is the voltage drop. If it gets below 110 volts, serious damage can occur.

Looks like lots of fun in the near future. Consider coming to the Beachstream rally in September, its only 600 miles from your location!

My better half decided to run the AC on 20 amp and melted the adapter. AC was fine but geeze! The heat strip works fine on 20 AMP but no AC.
