water fill up near Indy

Hello fellow rv'ers! I'm traveling to indy 500 next week with my 94 airstream landyacht 33 moho . Coming from bloomington illinois . And don't feel like hauling a full tank of water with me .They have portable water tanks there but a little pricey .does anybody have a cheap source to fill up near indy?

Your fuel use with a full water tank is negligable. Fill er up and enjoy knowing you can flush, shower, drink, and be comfy along the way!

Unless your trailer is different than most, the water tank is over or very nearly over the axles. Added weight in this area will not usually noticeably effect handling. If your trailer is designed to carry the load of a full tank, (any I have owned were) the effect on handling will not be noticeable. I think you'll find that most users travel with a full tank, and I have not heard a negative comment from any of those that do. The negative comments seem to come from people who don't do it and have some untested idea that it might be bad.

The only possible exception that I can think of:
If, with an empty tank, your trailer and/or tow vehicle is already maxed out as far as GVW and/or rated towing capacity is concerned, then it would not be a good idea to add the extra weight.

I overlooked the fact he is in a Moho. I referenced a trailer. I'm pretty sure the Mohos would be the same. Maybe one of those guys/gals could post their experiences.
I personally carry full fresh in both my 34s.

I have stopped at fire stations and for $1 a fireman would be happy to fill it up!
Also waste water treatment facilities will allow sanitary dumping sometimes for free!

I'm going to blame my post on the use of "MOHO". I've never been a thorough reader anyway. Where is the tank in a motor home?

I'm a scanner reader and often overlook the details!
I think the tanks are over the rear axle. 400 pounds of water is like the weight of 2 adults. Should be invisible if full and not sloshing around.

SOME Wal-Marts have outside "bulk water" - a station where you can refill office sized water bottles of 5 gallons each. You pay a deposit for the bottle(s), then pay for the water as you fill it, then you can get your deposit back for the big bottle or two you use.

A bit of a PITA - because you have to have some kind of siphon or pump or stand to hold the bottle while it's emptying into your white tank, but it works as a last resort.

If you stop at any small independently owned store you could always ask if you could fill up water for a modest charge. Does Flying J or any of the other truck stops offer water refills?

My regular camp has rather nasty Iron tasting water - but another local camp will let non-campers come in and dump for $8... oddly they don't have any facilities or charges for filling a potable water tank.

In my experience, I have seen rather nasty conditions surrounding truck stop spiggots.

We usually travel with water in the tank. But on the occasion when we didn't I filled up along the highway at a rest area. If there's an attendant on duty just ask. But I agree that considering the weight of the total package the water weight is not an issue. The convenience of having it if you need it is priceless.
