Watch your batteries

My wife and I bought an Airstream International CCD about two years ago. Wonderful unit and we love it, although we have only taken it out about 6 times due to lack of an adequate tow vehicle. Recently my wife and I were camping at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL. We were there for 4 days. As we were preparing to leave, my electric hitch jack did not want to work. I thought it was an electrical problem, but could not find any blown circuits or such. I finally decided to look at the batteries located on the front hitch behind the LP gas canisters. Unbelievably I found that someone had cut two of the electrical cables connecting the two batteries that were there, and stolen one of the batteries. Fortunately I could touch the two cut ends of the cable to make the jack work so we we able to hitch up and go. I filed a report with the park ranger and the park. I'll never know who stole the battery, but I thought that I'd warn others that there is a possiblity that someone would want to steal your battery, or batteries. Luckily, I still had one left to power the hitch. I will now put on a lock to protect the batteries from now on. Just be warned of the possibility. The batteries are obviously good batteries for Airstreams and boats. Be careful.

As a general rule, people who camp are great neighbors . I usually make friends with my neighbors while camping. When I am staying in a motel, I seldom make contact with the "axe murderers" in the next room when we pass by outside. Hope this never happens to you again. Thanks for the alert !

Bummer! That's a crummy thing for someone to do...bad karma will come to them. So glad you had one left to get you home... We, too, try to get off on a good foot with our camping neighbors...not that this will stop the bad apple in the crowd.
